Difficulty linking to DGL-4500 Gamer
« on: May 05, 2015, 04:31:50 PM »

Can't connect to Gamer Lounge DGL-4500 wireless router. Won't connect using WPS. Won't connect manually or auto. When trying to add to the mac filter, get the message 'Invalid mac address.' Using the mac address printed on the box and DWA-171. Win7-64 Ultimate. Any thoughts on how to get this cooking? Want to make my base PC wireless. Not a laptop.
Thanks,
Pereskia

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Don't use Mac Filtering to set up the router or adapter. Connect the adapter to the routers wireless SSID name that you have set up.

Wireless Configurations
Links>Wireless Installation Considerations and Managing Signal Congestion and Good Neighbour Policy
  • Ensure the default (dlink) SSID name is changed. Ensure that different SSID names are used between each WiFi 2.4/5Ghz radios. Can be anything and not something that's already in use by any neighbouring WiFi routers. Under Setup/Wireless/Manual.
  • What wireless modes are you using?
  • 2.4Ghz and 5Ghz routers: Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz and single mode N on 5Ghz?
  • Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz
  • Try setting a manual Channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear. 13 for EU regions. Try channel 48 or 149 on 5Ghz.
  • What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto TPIK and AES.

Be sure to use the latest drivers from the web for the 171 adapter...

If using the latest drivers on the web or suggested configuration doesn't fix this, you may need to update the routers FW. I would update to v1.15 first and then test...

FW on bottom of router was 1.02
Has been updated to 1.15 some time back. Is set to auto check for updates.
When I open the DWA-171 software, it sees the DGL-4500 with the correct mac, signal at 100% but at the top of the page it says disconnected.
This is very frustrating. I have connected iPhones and laptops in the past with no problems at all. This one really has me stumped.

Set the WiFi security on the 4500 to OPEN temporarily. Try to connect the adapter to the 4500...does it work then?
Turn on WPA2/TPIK only then test again...

Ok, it's still not connecting. Does the adapter work at a different location, maybe at a friend for families place?

One last thing to try, upgrade the FW to v1.23. Use the following process:
 >FW Update Process

Test the adapter wit the 4500 configured with out any WPA security to see if it connects. If it fails to connect, the adapter maybe faulty...
