I guess we need to count the blessing for being employed still huh?

Damn right. Nothing makes you appreciate your current job until you have to start looking for a new one. Specially since I have been in my current one close to 7 years. ::Fingers crossed::

But yea, I know there's always those people trying to use a retail grade router for commercials purposes and I would be glad to lend a hand.

Kewl, it would be nice to see ya and work with ya again.
Please review the DSR series routers under DLink VPN routers. Seeing more people with these lately.

The brown out killed the power adapter or the router entirely?

I would recommend a DIR-645 or 657 if the parents aren't using 5Ghz.

No word on WRT support yet. Anything is possible at this point. I don't think DLink allowed any support on the DGL line though. Maybe the 5500 will be the first.

Killed it completely. Would power up fine, lights would show good connectivity, hardwired would show a connection, but no IP. I reset to default, went static but was able to ping the default gateway. I am going to try to reflash it but I think its a brick.

As for the those routers, Im still a sticklier for external antenna, so if I was going to go Dlink, I would probably go DIR-655 since thats more in my price point.

Last, reason the DGL has never hard 3rd party support is it needed the Broadcom processor for the Gamefuel processing and Broadcom has never been compatible with 3rd party firmware(with very few exceptions), unlike routers like the DIR-615 that has a Atheros or Ralink CPU which is much more 3rd party friendly.

Might try loaded FW and see. Shame if you can't get it going. I still have on new in the box LOL.

You might try the 645, does very well for internal wifi. Ya, the 655 is still DLinks work horse.

Well, will see what DLink does and allows, will be up to them. I don't see anything yet for the 856L however not sure what it's got in it yet. The QoS UI is different from most other DIR series router accept for the 645 as it either does strict priority or weighted options for prioritization. I had one 835 router and it had this same engine UI.

I did hear that FCC is unlocking another band of WiFi. Will have to see how that plays out.

Another thing that I forgot to mention is that the 645 and 865L seem to get past the 2Mb uplink speed issue that some see on other routers. I haven't been able to test this as my uplink is 2Mb so i'm right on the fence. Is nice to see that DLink is getting past this since ISPs have been providing higher uplink speeds faster than 2Mb. Still a debate about it I know.  ::)

Hmm, looking through the DSR line. I will do my best but this isn't commercial users using retail routers, this is commercial users using commercial routers, and thats a horse of a different color. You would be admazed how many people don't read the manual though. BAD IT! Heh

Is it me or are we having two conversations at once? LOL I have a feeling you will have posted again before I post this.

I think the 2Mb upload was that most routers will be in wireless compatible mode by default, which means it will default to the lowest connection speed for any device on the network. Even if your entire network is N except for one old G, like a Ipod touch, it will slow your entire network. Thats why I always suggest turning off all devices except the one your testing, and if possible set your router to N only.

Ya, you'll notice a couple of home users trying to the DSR routers at home. Crazy people.  ::)

Thanks for the help man. I Think there is one post on the 615 forum dealing some some configuration you might want to take a look at. I think I responded that the router might not be supported in this configuration. Maybe you could review and reply?

I'm pretty quick now days, hehe. You'll need to catch up old man. LOL

Ya, I agree, 2Mb was the standard. Going forward, getting hard to say how all that will play out and seems like Dlink is making some adjustments for it on some of the DIR series routers. I do wish they had done something on the 857 and 827. They did mention there is a 2Mb soft boundry. Haven't said anything else about it.

Is it me or are we having two conversations at once? LOL I have a feeling you will have posted again before I post this.

Yea, classic case of "Need more input". From the sounds of it, its how he has it configured. But Im not even entirely sure what his complaint is. If your worried about how much load a DNS query puts on your network, I think your stretching it pretty thin. But we will see. I took a crack at a couple of the more recent DSR issues too.

Awesome, thanks the fore the help. Some people and there network configurations. Also might not help using a lowed router too. Most of the lower end routers are just basic routers. People expecting them to act like business class routers. sheesh.  ::)

Is there anyway to track my posts? I mean if I am posting all across the forum, its tough to see the ones that have replies? Any tricks?
