D-Link has requested I pull the firmware from the forums. A new BETA firmware will be coming soon.
Please post your results here. I do not have the exact release notes but it is to test the motion detection function. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK!!
-
Having issues updating FW. Say image is damaged. I don't see a standard .bin file in the folder that was unpacked.
Please advise.
-
Furry - I see this when I extract in Windows 10 (Show in Folder)

Ok, used StuffIt Expander in OSX to unpack the .zip file. I guess default OSX settings somehow wrongly decompiles the files. I got the new FW installed and have Motion detection enabled with default sensitivity. Will see how it goes.
-
I purchased the unit yesterday and this morning I enabled the Motion Alerts when I left and the alerts were endless. This afternoon I upgraded the firmware to this beta and then enabled Motion Alerts when I left. I tested and so far so good, working as expected.

God to hear. Same here with mine. No odd notifications seen so far.
-
Are the shifts/distortions in the video still there?
When trying to set off the motion detection - does it work? (there were complaints were it wouldn't work in those situations).
-
Well, not getting any detections all all with default settings and selected detection area. A friend of mine stayed the night and we both had traversed the selected detection area and I didn't get any thing on my phone. ???
-
Seems like an improvement but I had to use 90% sensitivity to have any motion detected.
-
I moved mine to 40%, I'll try 90% now.
-
I had a case number pending on this so tech support alerted me by email with firmware update file attached. They mentioned it was a beta that had been tested and seemed to work. Shoutout to Furrynutz for the mention of Stuffitexpander. I had the same issue on my Mac where it said the file was damaged. Once I unzipped with Stuffit I was able to install on all three of my 936L's with no issue.
Before the firmware update I was getting 30-40 false motion detections a day where the re-focusing of the camera would set off a detection. Since the update I have had only one false detection in the last 24 hours. It is still recording motion correctly and I am able to up the motion detection percentage from about 10% to 50% without setting off false alerts. I
Today was cloudy for the most part. The real test will be on a sunny day or a partly cloudy day - that really was a major problem before. Will report back if any changes or issues.
-
Even at 90% i'm not getting any detections. And i've been walking in view of the camera. ???
-
I haven't extensively tested but I noticed when a certain area is selected and sensitivity is set to 90% + there was one or two false alerts. I also experienced with one setting (don't remember exactly what there were) I didn't receive an alert until I was less than 3' from the camera. Yesterday with a selected detection area of about 75% of view and sensitivity set no higher than 80% alerts worked as expected. When arming, the selected area stays as the previous time it was set but the setting for Sensitivity always goes back to 30%, would be nice if this setting remained as last set.
Concerned with my experience and those of others of no alerts with some settings. In the app I would like to see an "enable" arm button on the main page to make it quicker and easier to arm. Also to get to the settings of the camera without having to go thru the Live View first. Al

I get less false alarms but I'm not getting detections even when I walking within the selected area. To me this beta version has not solve the problem.
-
Same here, not getting any detections when I walk in front of the camera. ::)
-
Firmware not working. Motion sensor failed after update. When can we expect a new firmware to eliminated all these issues?
-
Xccess - Please elaborate. What exactly isn't working? What sensitivity did you set? Explain your environment.

-
Camera mounted outside main entrance, changed in ambient lighting triggered false notification. After Beta firmware update, motion detection failed even when I stood infront of camera, sensitivity level set at 90%.
Had since revert back to previous firmware.
-
Thanks for this information.
-
I hope these bugs will get worked out as I'm in the market for a second camera but at this time I can't justify buying a second 936L.
Please keep us up to date.
Jeff
-
We will.

Looks like I am having the same results as the other posts. False triggers are down, but now it does not trigger if you actually have motion, i.e. someone standing in front of it wave their arms. I tried adjusting the sensitivity from 0 to 100, with no noticeable change. I have left the new(beta) firmware loaded since the old firmware didn't work either.
-
same here... although I found that if you point the camera at the sun and walk in front it may record the event, maybe :)
actually I have a couple of these set at 95% and it does pick up movement against areas of contrast, so night view becomes more of a problem.
-
Im seeing the same and have already forwarded this on to D-Link...
-
Just thought I would post since people are having issues with the Beta. I posted my results in
http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?PHPSESSID=0r222j6kefct4ot8v3ntaq5uj0&topic=66603.15
In short I am not having any false positives to speak of for the most part anymore after upgrading to the Beta. I am set around 80% or so sensitivity. It detects every time without fail when I am in front of it...it is mounted outside under patio. The one in my garage is working good also.
So the issue everyone MIGHT be having which is what I experienced is that if you upgrade to this Beta OR reboot the camera, you have to reformat the SD card for it to record. Dlink did confirm this on the other forum. My experience has been excellent with this Beta firmware on two cameras's 936L.
-
I'll try rebooting mine and set for 80%...
-
So after setting 80% yesterday and rebooting the camera. I have not received one notification of motion detect. There was motion yesterday and still going today and people have been moving around in front of where I have my camera placed. ::)
I'll try rebooting mine and set for 80%...
-
@Furrynutz Did you reformat the SD card...Like I mentioned above I got NO recording for motion until I reformatted the SD card. It was required after the initial upgrade of the firmware OR any reboots of the camera
-
My camera doesn't have a SD Card. This something that's needed for motion detection or should it work with out it?

-
Wanted to take a moment to update my testing of the beta firmware. I tried formatting the SD card and rebooting. Did not help. I also set the sensitivity to 80%, as recommended by others. Did not help. Even though the false detection have been substantially reduced, the camera still does not record actual motion. I have noticed that it always detects motion\records when the camera switches to and from night vision. I am really beginning to wonder if D-Link does any of their own testing or if they are leaving that us to us?
-
Thank you for the feed back and confirming this. I see this issue as well and have reported it to D-Link. Please be patient.

Hopefully, this will be fixed soon, since the false alarm triggering has been a problem since the camera came out.
-
@rvgantt You said you reformatted your sd card and rebooted...rebooting is what breaks the recording. Format SD card after a reboot then it will record motion. This is the exact scenario that I had on two cameras and they record fine now. If you reboot at a later time you will have to reformat your SD card again for it to work.
-
You shouldn't have to reformat your SD card after a reboot (power cycle).
I know with this beta firmware, once you update the firmware you have to reformat the SD card. But after a simple reboot it should not affect the SD card.
Furry, is this happening with your 936L?
-
I don't have SD card in mine or i'd test this out. Sorry. :-\
There a recommended SD card that I can get for it? I'll check out out...
-
I am testing mine now. I have a Kingston 32GB card. No need to get a card if you aren't using it. D-Link techs will test it too.
-
Ok. I check out out in the near future. ;)
-
I tested my 936L and recording worked without issues after pulling the power (reboot).
-
Just curious, is motion detection working for you Sir?
-
It works as stated by other users in this thread. :) It definitely works better in a room vs pointing outside a window. I have to set it to at least 90% sensitivity to detect any kind of motion. BUT I don't get 2-5 false notifications every hour.
-
Ok, I'll reconfigure mine for 90% and test. I haven't seen any notifications since loading this update...
-
D-Link has requested I pull the firmware off Forums. A new BETA firmware will be coming soon.
-
Thanks for the update. :)
-
They said mid-August for the firmware. Hopefully sooner.
-
Will wait patiently, after that, it's open season! :P
-
Ok, Just enabled MD and Notifications on my 936L and set sensitivity to 90%. Use the MDL app to enable everything.
-
Good luck :)
-
So walking with another person in front of this camera, 5 to 10 feet with 90% sensitivity doesn't seem to be posting any notifications. I made sure the app is enabled under Notifications in the iOS settings. iOS 10.3.1

Use less boxes on your active area. Try the 2 entry ways only.
-
Also since you are not recording, log into the UI, on the live view page upper left does the motion icon blink when motion is being detected? Just want to make sure it is a notification issue and not a "it is not detecting motion" issue.
-
Ok, set new areas on both 936L and 960L. Both at 90%. Nothing. I saw now motion detection indication on the MDL lite app while viewing the live view screen while walking in the selected areas.

Any chance using older router and wifi HW could impact this?
Current testing a DGL-4500 router and DIR-868L in AP mode for the multi game console NAT issue. Even with my DIR-890L I had online as router and a newer generation non-D-Link router, didn't seem to get any notifications. :-\
-
D-Link is aware of this and is working on the issue. Seems to be only iOS with notification issues.
-
Thank your Sir. ;)

I just bought this camera 2 days ago and I am having the same false motion alerts. It is clear it occurs when the camera is doing a refocus or adjustment. It does not help to lower sensitivity. Other then that love the camera. I would like to try the beta firmware discussed here to give it one more try before returning. How do I get the file to try it. I called dlink tech support and they basically blew me off and did not even check when I asked specifically about this beta file. Please help. Thanks

- What Hardware version is your DCS? Look at the sticker behind or under the camera.
- Link>What Firmware (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=47512.0) version is currently loaded? Found on the DCSs web page under status.
- What region are you located?
What Mfr and model is the main host router?
What wireless modes are you using?
What is the distance between the Camera and the main host router?
The beta was removed as it seemed to fix the false detections however then we could not get any detections working on the camera after that. So the MD feature remains broke at this time for some of us and I presume it will not help you with your issue unless you just want to stop the false detections from happening. You can disable MD for now and wait for the next version to appear. I heard it should be fairly soon.

> I heard it should be fairly soon.
I am hoping that the firmware isn't trying to do something that the hardware can't.
if a new firmware is released could someone post the news on this thread so that everyone will get the notice?
thank you.
-
The minute I get it I will post under Announcements on the home page.
-
thank you!
-
If you can post it here too that would be helpful, it doesn't look like I can setup notifications for the Announcements forum.
-
I will post it here too. I bookmarked the thread so I won't forget.

much appreciated, thanks again.

I too have been affected by this problem. Camera is in a window facing front door and walk way. Active area was set to a couple of squares on the door and some on the walk way. In the morning when the sun hits the paving stones from 7:30am all the way up to about 11ish it would spam false notifications due to the sun. Tried messing with the sensitivity; Got it to a balance around 8-10% where I'd only get about 3-5 per day, but then it wouldn't sense people as much. Especially as it got later in the day. I had contacted D-Link through Facebook and the representative began troubleshooting with me over a week and suggested trying testing with a single square on the walk way set at 50%. So I tried that, and it would pick up nothing, and not alert for anything. Bumped it up 10% each day over the course of the week until I got to 100% when I could stand in the spot and do jumping jacks and not have it trigger. Reported back to the representative who stated that was very strange and suggested I tried going to the support chat and explaining the case to them. So I did that and the answer I got from that was "I see. Thanks . The reason behind the spamming of push notification is because that camera senses the sunlight. Even a change on the light can be interpretted as motion" and to "Unplug it and plug it back in again". *FacePalm* I had even showed both the representative and the support chat person links to the forums here where people are complaining about the false positive issue on this camera, but I don't think they we're interested in it. Hope the new firmware is coming soon and works because this is definitely frustrating. Most of my products are D-Link, which have been known to be trouble free in the past. However this camera has left that image a little stained.

D-Link is aware of the problem and is working on it. New FW is supposed to be on the horizon.
Please be patient. Thank you.

The 936L is a terrible product. Or terrible firmware, however you want to look at it. I have three of them and it took months to get them even remotely serviceable. Waited for a firmware update for over 5 months to fix the false motion detection. Of course that firmware beta does not work for any of you. I bought the cameras in January and we are sitting here mid August. How long can it take to solve these problems? Apparently a minimum of 8 months. I would return the 936L and buy a model that has better reviews on here. It is not worth your time or effort. If I could go back I wouldn't touch D-link. We have been sold unworkable goods and they are getting away with it.
But be patient!!!! Ha.
-
Issues take time to figured out, develope fixes, then internally test then test more with other sources to make sure nothing else is broke. So yes, a little more understanding and patience is needed. I understand your frustrations however it is what is and we have to let D-Link get it fixed.
This thread is closed for now.

Looking like something towards the end of the month on next update. Keeping our fingers crossed. ;)
