HP printer won't connect since firmware 1.20
« on: July 26, 2019, 06:20:37 PM »

I have an HP Officejet 8710 printer that used to be connected to my network without any issues. Since my router updated to the 1.20 firmware the printer refuses to connect to the network. The error that it gives is that it thinks MAC address filtering is enabled on the router - which it isn't. In fact, I can't even find anywhere in the router's configuration to enable/disable MAC address filtering.

Any suggestions? I've had a look through HP's support pages without much luck, although they are pretty useless. The only thing I can think of is going back to firmware 1.12 which worked fine.

EDIT - I have tried both with the password and using WPS, neither have worked.

Has a factory reset and setup from scratch been performed since the FW update?

Is Smart connect enabled? Try disabling SC.
ALso as a quick test, disable WPA security on 2.4Ghz temporarily. See if the printer connects to the OPEN SSID name...Then re-enable WPA...

I have factory reset it and it didn't help. Smart Connect is enabled and I would prefer to leave it on, however I will try disabling it and see if it helps.

Turning off Smart Connect seemed to fix it. The printer connects fine to the 2.4GHz network. It sees the 5GHz network albeit with very low signal so I didn't even bother trying to get it to connect to that. Shame as I enjoy the convenience of having Smart Connect on. Oh well!

What happens if you turn on SC while the printer is on while using the same SSID name that the printer is connected too?
