AP problem
« on: December 19, 2015, 08:16:37 AM »

Hello, I'm using this router as an AP in combo with my Zyxel VMG5313-B30A. The problem is that after a while the AP just doesn't work anymore. When i try to connect to it with a phone is just says obtaining IP address over and over again. Also I can't connect to the web interface anymore on my PC. But after i restart the DIR-605L router everything works fine again for a while. Sometimes it stops working after 8 hours, sometimes it works for a day, it's basically random. I already downloaded the latest version for the DIR-605L.

Here is the link for my DIR605L settings http://imgur.com/a/kSWMA
And here for Zyxel VMG5313-B30A settings http://imgur.com/osOMlzX

Hardware Version : B2
Firmware Version :2.06UI, Tue 07 Jul 2015

If the DIR-605L is acting as a AP, what do you have connected to the Zyxel? When you lose the connection on the Dlink, can the devices connected to the Zyxel still get online? If the Dlink is acting as a AP, then it isn't doing any DHCP, so if your device is having trouble obtaining a IP, then it can't get it from the Zyxel.

Please reference this for using routers as APs: Turning a router into an AP.

My PC is connected to the Zyxel via ethernet cable. After i can't connect to Dlink anymore my phone can still connect to Zyxel wifi. Restarting Zyxel doesn't do anything but when i restart Dlink it works again for a while. When my phone cant obtain IP from the Dlink i also can't connect to Dlink via web interface from my PC anymore.

I have now changed my Dlink IP to 192.168.5.50 to see if that helps.

When the problem happens, and you can't access the Dlink UI, can you at-least ping it? Seems like it's not a connection issue between the Zyxel and Dlink, but the Dlink not responding. It could also be a IP conflict like I assume your thinking (because your changing the IP) but even then, what ever is conflicting should still be pingable.

Also, once it reconnects, is there anything in the logs explaining the problem? Status > View Log from the UI.

Last, when you say your PC is connected to the Zyxel, do you mean it stays online during the time your phone can't get online via the Dlink?

Changing the IP didn't help. I can't ping it from PC when the problem happens. It doesn't show anything in the log, just shows the last time my phone got authenticated.

When my phone and PC can't connect to Dlink my Zyxel works normally and I can get online both with PC over ethernet and phone over Wifi on the Zyxel.

I just found out that repluging the ethernet cable on dlink makes it work again for a while.

I was wrong before, restarting the Zyxel does make it work again. What i will try now is to leave a device connected to Dlink 24/7 to see if the same thing happens.

There are no problems if i leave my phone connected to the wifi. Seems like there is some power saving feature or something that causes my problem when the Dlink is inactive, but i can't find in in Zyxel or Dlink.

I noticed that my ethernet cable had only 4 pins, so I changed it and it seems like my problem is solved. But i still don't understand how that 4 pin cable works fine then just suddenly doesn't.

Possibly when you changed from router to AP mode or the handling of the cable.

I recommend using CAT6 LAN cables.

Enjoy.
