JavaLawyer,

For the past couple of years I used a pair of 1.5 TB Seagate ST 31500541AS hard drives configured as RAID 1. They both gave reliable service. I don’t see them listed.

Last week I switched them out for a pair of 2.0 TB Seagate ST2000DM001 hard drives configured as RAID 1. I don’t see them listed either. They formatted to full capacity and passed both the SMART and scan disk tests. 1.1 TB of data copied back to them @ 19.1 MB/sec. over GBit Ethernet.

Added to the compatibility list! ;)

The first list below contains published D-Link approved and verified Hard Drives (HDDs). The second list contains HDDs tested by D-Link forum community end users. If you would like to contribute a HDD you personally tested to this list, please post the HDD make/model/capacity, configuration, length of time in use, and observations (e.g. stability, performance, etc) as a reply to this thread.

*Disclaimer: Hard Drives (HDDs) categorized as tested by end users were neither internally tested nor verified by D-Link. As such, users who opt to purchase HDDs on this list categorized as tested by end-users for their ShareCenter DNS-320 do so at their own risk.

Firmware Requirement for High Capacity HDDs

Hard drives with capacities greater than 2TB are only compatible with Firmware version 2.01 and above.  Firmware v2.01 is the first release for the DNS-320 designed to handle advanced format addressing (AFD) required to support high capacity HDDs.

HUA723020ALA641 (2TB)
ST3500630AS (500GIG)
Current NAS Firmware Version    2.05
Firmware Date    05/07/2014
Using standard and both are just fine after getting them full. I have several of the HUA723020ALA641 drives just haven't put another in yet too lazy to copy all the data off the Seagate i been using it as a computer backup and download drive. The HUA723020ALA641 was bummed in the 343 it had a weird pause and restart problem and they also are hot drives and have issues with some hardware in Dell & HP machines. But in the 320 it is great fast and solid so far.

Just installed new 3TB HGST.  It took a few reseat of the drive and transfer between the two slots before getting detected.  Finally able to get it detected after installing it on HDD-Right slot while current 2TB Seagate is on the other slot.  It was the same configuration I first tried but did not work initially.  Current setup is below:

Standard volume type
Right - HGST - HDN724030ALE640
Left - Seagate - ST2000DM001-1CH1
Firmware Version 2.05
Hardware Revision A1

Western Digital - WD Red - WD30EFRX - SATA 6G - 3 TB
HDD is recognized but not able to format (Standard format (not Raid or JBOD). with the latest firmware
HDD waits for ever (>12 hours)

Seagate NAS 4TB did get formatted in less than 1 hour

is the HDD faulty?

Put the 3Tb drive in a Desktop PC and see if Windows can format the drive successfully.
If you have tried a different drive in the DNS and it works, kind of points to this other drive being bad maybe.
