Failing IPV4 Ping on DIR880L
« on: June 16, 2017, 04:15:16 PM »

Live in NJ
Have comcast as provider
Using this router in combination with asus sb6190

I get. 19/20 score on a IPv4 and IPv6 website
Speed is good on both fronts
But I cannot pass the ping test on IPv4

I tried searching the web and this website I can't find anything

I recently after the initial installation install the new firmware I have not done a factory restart

Can someone please help me out?

I feel like one of the settings are wrong but maybe it's something else

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?
  • Are you wired or wireless connected to the router?
  • Has a Factory Reset been performed?
  • Was a Factory Reset performed before and after any firmware updates then set up from scratch?

Your SB 6190 is made by Arris.

I recommend following the FW update process and re-load the FW and perform a factory reset after it applies and set up from scratch.

Be ware of the 6190 issue. You might have a look at getting into a SB6183 or 8200 if your ISP supports them.

The part I forgot to mention is that I've had the modem for about six months and no issues. I can't tell you if I was failing the Ip4V  test though.

The issues only arose with slow downloads Only after I installed the Dlink router. About 2 weeks ago

Looks like you're suggesting it's not a settings issue but a factory reset issue???

If the IPV4 ping test is attempting to ping the IP of the router from the internet (WAN) then it will not work with this router.

I found this out a couple of years ago - see http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=61252.0.

Bottom line is the firmware (1.02) did not support it and the latest version (1.08) doesn't support it either.

I guess this is more secure but it can be a pain when trying to diagnose problems.

Ah yes, I believe D-Link doesn't allow the WAN side to respond to any pings. Older generation routers had this feature. I believe that not supporting this has closed some security concerns for home class routers.

I'm confused so is this expected or it's not expected should I do the reset or should I not?
