OpenDNS will not work on 880l
« on: September 15, 2016, 05:16:45 PM »

I saw someone posted this with no resolution so I figured I would open another thread.  OpenDNS will not work with this router.
Info:

DIR-880L HW:A1 FW:1.05WW
US-South Carolina
Charter (basic charter modem, not sure of model as this setup is at my parents house)

DNS info entered under advanced Internet Options on router:
Primary DNS Server:
208.67.222.222
Secondary DNS Server:
208.67.220.220

With the OpenDNS info under lan properties:

This is easy to test, just put in OpenDNS (208.67.222.222 · 208.67.220.220) in router, then go here to test:  https://www.opendns.com/welcome/

Like I mentioned before this router is at my parents so it will be hard for me to default, try different firmware, etc.  Its not too big of a deal as I have the dns info under their lan properties on their computers but would be nice if this would work through the router.
Thanks

I have a OpenDNS account for their safety, they are always going to the wrong websites and would have never know it wasn't working until I was scanning through these forums and saw this thread:  http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=64672.0

I turned Enable DNS relay off and that seemed to work.  I'm not sure what that is, is it ok to leave off?  Going to effect anything on their end?  Now when I go to ipconfig /all, dns shows both OpenDNS servers but then both google servers.  Wonder where the google ones are coming from?

Link>Welcome!

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?

Yes DNS Relay relay should be disabled. DNS relay is only need for some fitlers and controls that you might set up, like scheduling and parental controls.

I have Charter - Cable 60x4.
Thanks for your reply.  So I guess the issue was my lack of knowledge and not the router.  Sweet, thanks for your time.
