Do routers "settle in"?
« Reply #795 on: September 18, 2011, 09:26:59 AM »

Do routers tend to settle in to their settings?  Do they tend to kind of "fix themselves" or make themselves more efficient like modems do?  I'm thinking probably not but was just curious.

Anyone notice that D-Link moves around the order of the board categories on the forum root page? ???

I have to honestly say that I only visit this forum and the dir-601 and have them bookmarked.

Is it because they're adding new routers and have to make room to put them in alphabetical order?

The order of the categories at the root level of the forum were moved around, not just the networking board(s). I spend most of my time in the DNS (NAS) boards and now they're all shuffled.

I use Opera and have all the DGL, DIR and DAP forums tabbed so that when I close Opera and reopen it, the forums that I watch are automatically reloaded and opened.  ;D I can even group them all together, contract and expand them.  ;)

You're the man. ::)

Now that DNS is listed at the top of the forum, DNS will be the first to get hit with spam. The spammers always work from top-down on the boards and usually never get deep enough to hit DNS. Looks like DGL, DIR, and DAP will get a reprieve from spam.

well, let us know how things goes. Really shouldn't see a lot of spam like before. Should be near someone. I know there are a few popping in here and there. I got your report and was already gone by the time I got the email so the system is working.  ;)

Got the Xbox. Send me a PM if you want so I can add you all to my (empty) friends lists. I tried playing a game of GOW2 but all I got was "ticker" games. Is this some new buffling methods people use to rank? I tried three socail hoarde matches, all of them ticker only. Whats up with that?

You need to pick up Mw2,  and if you want, BlackOps even though I hate BO. MW2 is the best, for now. Don't play GoW anymore.  ::) I'll be getting MW3 and BF3 I think.  ::)

I pre ordered and picked up Gears 3 today.  Wow, there sure is a lot going on in Horde 2.0!

Oddly, today it looks like Charter decided to push Docsis 3.0 in our area!  So, we got Gears and Docsis 3.

Indeed!  It's been up and running since I got it.  Now, hopefully we'll get the most out of what it's designed to do.  It has 4 channels for bonding, right?  The Ubee (Ambit) I got from Charter has 6 channels.  I may try it out tomorrow and see if all 6 channels bond.

I'm currently trying a Buffalo router, btw.  A $16 refurb from ecost.com WHR-G300N model  :P

I had a lot of trouble setting it up but found the issue and then it found the DHCP IP addresses and came right up.  It's a little better than the DIR-601 only because with the 40MHz channel I can get 300 MBps transfers.  I don't think the 601 gives that option but still has been a solid performer.
