No internet access on 5GHz Band
« on: April 10, 2013, 06:18:48 PM »

Hi all,

I just bought myself a new DIR-826L router to improve the wireless range in my 2 storey house. The DIR-826L is connected to the modem/router combo provided by my ISP. The modem/router combo was set to bridge mode and I had configured the DIR-826L to do the PPPoE connection.

I have 3 D-Link IP Cams installed and they all are connected wirelessly to the DIR-826L. Everything work perfectly and I can view my cam and DIR-826L from myDlink site.

But I am having a problem with the 5GHz band connection. I have a Windows 8 PC installed with TP-Link Dual Band PCIe Adapter and I have a Samsung Galaxy Note. Both can see the SSID for the 5GHz and I can connect to it but there was no access to Internet.

FYI, the DIR-826L is placed on the ground floor and Windows 8 PC is upstair with a concrete floor in between. But the signal that I am getting on the PC is strong i.e. at least 4 out of 5 bar so I guess there is no issue with the wireless range.

For my Galaxy Note, the phone connects to the 5GHz network fine with a good signal but still no access to the Internet.

This is my first post in this forum, and I tried to do some googling but cant seem to find any solution. I am worried that I bought a faulty unit which if that is the case, I need to send it back to the shop where I bought it.

Link>Welcome!
What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?

Are the Cams on 2.4Ghz or 5Ghz?
Do wired connects get internet?
Do 2.4Ghz devices get internet?
Ensure that your devices support the 5Ghz radio frequency. Not all devices or adapters support the 5Ghz radio. Refer to the devices Mfr support for the specs.
Ensure that drivers are updated for those devices that use drivers for adapters.

I currently have this model and is does work great on both radios. I really enjoy this router.

Hi FurryNutz..

Thanks for your reply.

FYI all the camera are connected to the 2.4GHz network as they cant see the 5GHz network. The model is Dlink 932, Dlink 930 and Dlink 5222L.

With wired connection and 2.4GHz network, the internet access is OK.

But last night, suddenly everything works! I didn't do any configuration but suddenly I can access the internet through the 5GHz network. Also, before my wired connection speed is only 100MBps but now the speed is 1.0GBps.

This is so strange. I hope this is not a hardware issue. I will monitor for the next few days.
