WiFi Protected Setup (FW 1.08)
« on: October 18, 2016, 07:46:13 PM »

Two options in question since I'm not exactly sure what they mean and stand for...

My Settings:

WPS-PBC Status is Disabled.

WPS-PIN Status is Locked.

I know what WPS stand for and what it is, although I have never used it.

PBC might be Push Button Connect ? ? ?

PIN might be a required PIN number which I wasn't aware of, since I see no way to designate such number ? ? ?  Also, not sure what locked means but it seemed the safest selection.

Thanks,

Mark.

Useful information at that link.  Thanks.

The Push-Button method, I am familiar with.

The PIN method, I didn't know there was a PIN.  It seems as if it would be brute-force vulnerable.  I shall keep the PIN option LOCKED which I think it would be the safest selection, correct?  What on earth is the actual number (PIN) and where is it stored?  I don't like the PIN method at all.

Ya, it's supposed to be a simplified way to connect devices what support WPS.

The PIN should be seen on the UI or posted on the sticker under router or on a card that was inside the box when you opened it up for the first time.

I think that WPS maybe ok for home users who don't live in a populated or congested area. I would presume those areas could, not say does, however could have more possibilities of someone trying to hack in to gain access to free wifi. Slow neighborhoods, maybe not so much. I generally just connect to SSID and PW.  ;)

Sorry to dredge this one up, but FurryNutz, after your excellent as usual explanation and answer, I'm still not sure I understand which is the safest setting for WPS PIN - it should be LOCKED, correct?  Wording is strange to me.  Wish it was just a simple, clear "enable/disable" choice.  I'm on firmware version 1.20, but I don't think that matters here.

Thanks as always for your help.
