Does anyone know what a solid white power light means? The router does not boot up. Tried connecting a serial connection but nothing shows up on putty. I am assuming the connection from left to right is RX (the one with a small triangle) space vcc ground TX. The anyone have any ideas?

White power light means there is sold power but next to it is the Internet LED should be white as well so you have internet access. See users manual at http://legacyfiles.us.dlink.com/DIR-895L/REVA/

Only light that's on is the solid white power light. No other light is on.

Do you have a modem connected to the WAN port of the router with Ethernet cable?

At the moment no, as I have another router connected to the modem because the 895L was malfunctioning. When it started malfunctioning it would only shows the solid white light. During boot up it wouldn't show a blicking orange light as it should but instead it only shows a solid white power light.

Have you tested out the WAN/Internet port with a computer to see if it connects and the computer Ethernet NIC card shows any speeds. PS it just for physical connection not a way to log in or anything else.

I just did and under the internet properties it shows 1.0 Gbps. I also tried bringing up the crash recovery option by using Firefox with 192.168.0.1 but that does not bring up the loading screen.

Could be a bad router and since its legacy product might be time to replace it.

Any reason why the serial connection wouldn't even show up on a putty session? Are you able to tell me what the correct RX TX grn order is on the JP1 port?

Might not be able to putty into the router, you might want to check datasheet or users manual for more information about this discontinued Router.

Try crash recovery. Turn the router off, hold in the reset button and turn it on. Continue holding for 15 seconds and release. After boot up, go to 192.168.0.1 and a firmware screen should appear. Load the latest firmware. If it does not work, try 2-3 times. If it still will not work, router is dead.

Note you will have to statically assign your computer (192.168.0.2 / 255.255.255.0).

Load the latest firmware. If it does not work, try 2-3 times. If it still will not work, router is dead.

Tried that but the power light never turns orange. From the moment I turn it on the power light remains white.

You mighty try searching and or asking someone over in the DD-WRT forum about JTAG port information. I know that some of those users dive deeper into routers and router HW, one may have the port configuration information you need to check on the boot loader and nvram. Some like to fiddle around with that over there. If you can get into this then if you have the means, you might be able to recover the router. If not then the router is just bad and needs replacing. Either the NVRAM is corrupt or there is a HW failure. If you want another 895L you might find a used one on places like Amazon or fleabay.

Thank you. It's weird that putty won't even show any information. That's a first for me.
