I have owned the DGL-4500 router for years. It is updated to FW 1.23NA. Never had any problems with it. Three days ago without changing anything the router began to block all incoming TCP packets for my youtube app on my droid x2. This only occurs for my droid x2 and only for the youtube app. I can use netflix, browser, basically everything except for the youtube app.  My desktop works just fine, kindle fire works, dell laptop works, and 2 other cellphones on the network can use their youtube app just fine.

I figured it had to be something with my phone. I reflashed the phone's rom and reinstalled all my backed up apps that worked 3 days ago. Basically I can load the app, the video icons, but as soon as you click to load one of them it just buffers forever due to the traffic being blocked by router. Also I should note that the youtube app works when on the cellular network. Just not when I connect to the WiFi.

• What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
• Has a Factory Reset been performed?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations

• What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
• What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?

Router and Wired Configurations
Some things to try: - Log into the routers web page at 192.168.0.1. Use IE, Opera or FF to manage the router. Besure to log into the Admin account on the router.

• Turn off ALL QoS or Disable Traffic Shaping (DIR only) GameFuel (DGL only and if ON.) options, Advanced/QoS or Gamefuel. For the DGL-5500, review this for Streamboost information and settings: Furry's DGL-5500 Review
• Turn off Advanced DNS Services if you have this option under Setup/Internet/Manual or under Setup/PARENTAL CONTROL/Set to>None: Static IP or Obtain Automatically From ISP.
• Enable or Disable Use Unicasting (compatibility for some ISP DHCP Servers) and test under Setup/Internet/Manual. Disable may help with speed performance on higher speed ISP services.
• Turn on or off DNS Relay under Setup/Networking. Link>Finding Faster DNS Addresses using Name Bench and input new DNS addresses under Setup/Internet/Manual.
• Setup DHCP reserved IP addresses for all devices ON the router. Setup/Networking. This ensures each devices gets its own IP address when turned on and connected, eliminates IP address conflicts and helps in troubleshooting and maintain consistency for applications that need to connect as well as mapped drives.
• Ensure devices are set to auto obtain an IP address.
• Set Firewall settings to Endpoint Independent for TCP and UDP under Advanced/Firewall. Enable or Disable SPI to test.
• Enable uPnP and Multi-cast Streaming under Advanced/Networking.
• What wireless modes are you using?

No TrueGigaBit Routing feature.
Gamefuel is disabled.
Advanced DNS disabled.
Unicasting enabled or disabled has same effect.
DNS Relay enabled or disabled has same effect.
Reserving IP has same effect.
Droid X2 is set to auto obtain IP.
DGL-4500 nor Droid X2 are IPv6 devices.
Firewall TCP and UDP both set to Endpoint Independent has same effect. I tried every combination of the Endpoint Independent, Address Restricted, and Address and Port Restricted. All had the same effect.
Disabling SPI has same effect.
Enabled / Disabled uPnP has same effect. Enabled / Disabled Multi-cast streaming has same effect. Enabled both and disabled both at same time has same effect.
Wireless mode is set to Mixed 802.11n, 802.11g, 802.11b.

Try this:
Add a game fuel rule, enable game fule and configure the following:
Local Ip address range From and To: input the reserved IP address if the Android in the two boxes.
Protocol: Any
Priority: 128
Remote IP address range should auto fill in From 0.0.0.1 To 255.255.255.254
Save settings and reboot the router, then the Android and test...
Set single wireless G or N or Mixed G and N and test.

I am getting about 1/2 of the blocked packets I was, but the log still indicates TCP packets are being blocked. I was able to get a video to play one time after allowing it to buffer for 2-3 minutes, but I haven't been able to repeat it. Another thing I noticed is that since I assigned a reserved IP to the phone it gets deauthenticated every 5 minutes or so. Now that I think about it, the video may have played because it switched to the 3G cellular network momentarily while the wifi was reestablishing itself.

This phone is about to be thrown in the garbage.

*edit* I don't want to waste anymore of your time. Thanks for trying to help, I think the best course of action will be to just physically break the phone into as many pieces as possible.

Does the phone exhibit this same issue if you use a different WiFi router?
Only thing I can think of is maybe that there is a incompatibility issue between this phone and this model router. This router is getting a bit old in life and since it's drivers are no longer being kept up to date and the newer generation phone has up to date driver, possible that there is an age compatibility issue.

The 4500 is still a great router though...

The thing is both the router and the phone have cooperated for years. This problem only surfaced a few days ago out of the blue. Before this I used the youtube app practically every single day without a problem. I use an older version (4.1.23) of the android youtube app since the newer versions (4.2 and newer) wouldn't even buffer the video. It throws an error that the video couldn't load and retry. I'm not the only one experiencing that problem with older android phones still running Android Gingerbread. There are threads dating back to 2013 and yet google has yet to fix the problem. I guess legacy support just isn't a priority in the smart phone industry. Maybe I'll try a windows phone they always had great legacy support built into their software.

This problem though I just cannot imagine why the router would start blocking all the incoming traffic specific to the loading of a youtube video. Especially considering it was working that morning, by the time I got off work in the early evening the app no longer worked. I didn't change a thing on either the router or phone.

I don't think the DGL-4500 is at fault at this point. I'm convinced it is the phone. Probably Verizon's way of saying spend some money you cheap turd. Anyways, thanks for your assistance. I'm just going to accept the fact I'll never use youtube on this phone through wifi again.

Ok, I would presume that this is a phone OS/app issue and probably something was updated recently that has probably done something to the phone/OS that has inhibited good operation. Can the OS be upgraded any farther on the phone? Maybe time for something new.

No further OS updates are available for the phone. Motorola made the decision that Gingerbread 2.3.5 would be the last version supplied for the Droid x2. I know of people flashing newer android versions onto the phone, but I already made the decision to upgrade my phone. I'll be swinging by the local verizon friday morning. I'm not going to waste anymore time on this phone.
