remote management not working.... port forwarding not working
« on: October 06, 2008, 11:33:33 PM »

Hi Everine
I just bought this router
Hardware Version: A2
Firmware Version: 1.20

I am having problem with making any kind of connection using my ip address .. or from otherside the network...
the remote management doesn't work.. virtual server doesn't work... and port forwarding is not working...
did i forget to change some setting...???
can any1 give me some tips to set this up...
i even tried upgraded firmware to 1.21 and then downgraded it..

its so frustrating.....
could it be a bad hardware... should i replace it for another unit..?

Remote Management works fine with all the firmwares I have used so far (v1.02 to v1.21b05). I am even using https remote management right now.

FYI: If u are accessing via the internet from another location which is on another ISP, there is a possibility that ur ISP is blocking ports, example port 80 and 8080. One of the ISP here where I am does that, thus remote management requires to be open via non-blocked ports.

so i called the Dlink support and they said
they can log into my router remotely and its not working for me because i have to use the wan ip address from outside the network and not inside the network..

to access inside the network i can only use local ip... 192.168.0.1 (in my case)...

does this make sense to any1...??
can some 1 explain this...
in the mean time i will try login in from outside the network...
thanx

Ok, the REMOTE management port is for WAN access of the routers config. This means that LOCALLY the unit will still respond on the default port 80 (usually designated by not specifing a port at all {e.g. 192.168.0.1}), but when access the router REMOTELY or from the WAN side you'd use the REMOTE port {e.g. 67.130.140.127:1234}.
With SPI enabled you can not access the WAN address from the LAN side of the router. It filters loopback.
Does that make sense?
