DIR 850L multiple problems
« on: July 01, 2016, 12:16:52 PM »

Hello guys!
Today I just got this router, DIR 850L B1 revision, firmware 2.06
A few things about router config:
-wired or wireless
(phone or laptop, same issues).

-Has a Factory Reset been performed?
YES

What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
Romanian ISP RDS with PPPOE connection
but, remember, I use the router via DHCP to my old router, just to test, so I can say that both pppoe and dhcp.

What ISP Modem service link speeds UP and Down do you have?
theoretical:100mbps up, 100mbps down. real: with my asus router: 94 mbps both. Wire in the motherboard: 94mbps also.
with this router, the BEST case scenario, directly from my ips cable is 50mbps download and 80mbps upload.
I said there something about dhcp. the reason for me to buy this router was the 5ghz band. My other router is Asus rt n18U. An amazing router, that works at least. Anyway, as I said, after I saw that the PPPOe performance is bad, I connected the 850L to Asus via DHCP. Speeds get a little better(up tp 70mbps down and 80 mbps upload, but still not good enough(both wifi 5ghz and wire)).
So, my first issue, is how to fix this. It's not normal, to pay so much for this, and to do less than an 10$ wireless router.
2. Is there any way to disable WPS? Because I don;t need it, and I know some others security reasons.
3. Is there any way to disable QOS or other stuff that I don't use. The interface in A revision was way better, than this light one...

Link>Welcome!

Try setting IPv6 to Local connection only.
Disable SPI and test.
  • If the ISP modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems: Link>Double NAT and How NAT Works. Call the ISP and ask to see if the ISP modem can be bridged. To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged. If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ. Also check the routers DHCP IP address maybe conflicting with the ISP modems IP address of 192.168.0.1. Check to see if this is the same on the ISP modem, and if modem can't be bridged, change the DIR router to 192.168.1.1 or .0.254.
Example of a D-Link router configured for PPPoE with ISP Modem bridged: PPPoE Configuration on a Router

If you don't place any devices in the QoS section boxes, QoS is disabled. Be sure to set ISP speed UP and Down to match that you pay for from your ISP service.

If any of this still fails to get better performance, I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.
