Title: DCS-2330L firmware update not working
Post by: supermalemodel on October 15, 2015, 04:34:59 PM
I setup my DCS-2330L camera successfully but the firmware update is not working.  There are two sites one says the latest firmware is release 12 and the other shows the latest as release 02.  No matter which one I try to upload both BIN files fail with message that firmware is corrupt.  I am downloading from D-Link website.  When I use the setup wizard and search for latest update that is when it shows release 12 as the latest.  When I go to the D-link website it shows release 02 as the latest.  Very confusing?  I have the camera hooked up to my router via Ethernet cable and green light is on with each attempt.  Current version is 1.01.06 so none of my attempts have upgraded the firmware.  Both the camera and PC are on the same network.  This process should be easier and I should not be getting missed signals and told that two different versions are the most current.

Are you experiencing any problems with the camera?
It's recommended to not update unless your experiencing issues...

I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. I think this is just a configuration issue. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.
Let us know how it goes please.

Is this a general problem for this camera. I am reading in a couple forums that people can not upgrade the firmware. I have the exact same problem reported here. If i try to upgrade it using mydlink.com page it just filed and if I tried manually using any browse (IE, opera, Chrome, Firefox) all of them failed after I choosing the .bin file and clicking upload. So i dont think it is because I received a faulty camera if there are the same reports everywhere. Is there a way to upgrade the firmaware. I just cane believe Dlink has this kind of problems.

PC 3rd Party Security Software Configurations

What Mfr and model is the main host router?
What wireless modes are you using?
If the wirless signal isn't good, the try using wired LAN cable connection to update the FW.
We recommend setting a static IP address ON the camera out side the main host routers DHCP IP address pool. I.e. 192.168.#.23 or .30

  • Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.

I already tried everything I could think of, including trying to upgrade the camera wired and not wireless and still the same problem. My router is a Netgear R7000 and like I mentioned I already tried using the cable so the wireless configuration doesnt matter anymore. I disable all the firewall and AV programs i have and nothing.  Sorry but it is not a little bit weird that a couple more people is reporting the same issue. It is not only one or two persons reporting these and with the exact same results.

Same exact problem as eoga.  Tried upgrading firmware over ethernet with wireless disabled.  Using an Asus RT-N66U router.  Camera has static IP.  Tried upgrading via mydlink.com as well as through the camera's web admin interface.  No success with either method.  Results are identical to those reported by eoga.

Anyone actually able to upgrade successfully??

got it to upgrade!  crazy.  i rebooted the camera (not sure that helped at all), then tried upgrading again through the web admin page (not mydlink).  it failed.  tried two more times, and the third time it just worked!  so maybe try rebooting the camera and then give it multiple tries??

now to see if the upgrade was worth it... good luck to all.

Sorry, I haven't been around for a while, my password was tossed out of my mobile browser and never bothered to look it up.

I too am having problems upgrading my dcs-2330l  HW VER A1 with F/W ver 1.01 (<box)  (camera> Firmware Version   1.01.06
) and getting the same issues above.

Tried all 3 browsers and 2 different machines (Win7 desktop, Win10 laptop)..  Firmware is corrupt.

This is on a netgear router using 10.0.0.x ip addresses locally.  WNDR3400.

I also tried from the webpage after registering and then from the firmware.

I've tried extracting the .bin from the zip with WinZip and Windows Explorer.  Same thing. Firmware corrupt when you refresh the page after getting connection timeout.  (I suspect 0 bytes are being uploaded, hence that message).

This webpage is not available

Thanks for your advice!!!  I too rebooted the camera and went directly to the upload page and chose my file and it actually uploaded the 1.12.

Now I have to wait 210 seconds.

Glad I saw your post yesterday! I thought something was really broken here with the D-Link firmware upgrade process.
The upgrade worked on the 3rd attempt for me too, from the admin page.
I have DCS-2330L_A1_FW_V1.12.00.bin and DCS-2330L_A1_FW_V1.02.03.bin saved away in safe place, just in case I need to switch firmware version.

What browser are you using when doing the FW upgrade? I recommend IE or FF with any browser addons and PC security software temporarily disabled while doing any FW updates.
LAN wired connected camera is preferred if you don't think the wireless signal with the camera is strong and stable.

IE v11 to update (I also use FF v39 with this camera). Under Windows 10. The UAC under Windows 10 has caused grief for many IP camera software products.
Not always practical to disable browser add-ons: I have some Symantec/Norton, Java and Microsoft add-ons.
I used WiFi to update, via the admin app and the .bin local file, after the camera was sync'ed to my network via a wired/cable connection.

Hi, I've signed up for an account just to share the solution of this commonly encountered problem with firmware upgrades
Non of the other reset unit followed by 3 attempts, using mydlink, out of DHCP range IP addresses, changing browsers or disabling AV/ FW worked for upgrading my 2330L from V1.00 to V1.12

However - when I used a stepwise approach to upgrading ; V1.00 - V1.02 then V1.12 , this worked a treat with the ethernet/wired connection
Someone should add to the FAQ that the firmware is incremental / stepwise!

Hope this helps someone save 3 hours

So your saying that users who have v1.00 currently loaded should update to v1.02 then v1.12 in that sequence?

Which browser are you using when connected to the MDL service?

The last time I updated my camera was using IE11 and I was at work and completed correctly.
It is critical that the wireless signal is good between the main host router and the camera.
It should update correctly. It does take a several minutes.

I contacted tech support.  We got the firmware update loaded.
I reset the camera back to factory default again.
I had to connect the camera directly to my computer with the supplied white Ethernet cable, bypassing the router.
Manually set the IP address on my computer to 192.168.0.99, Subnet mask 255.255.255.0, Gateway 192.168.0.20
then open firefox and entered the factory default camera IP of 192.168.0.20, you may need unplug the Ethernet cable for 10 seconds for work.s
I logged into the camera and proceeded to load the firmware update.  this worked.
According to tech support this is their last ditch procedure for loading firmware.
Does anyone have documentation on this procedure from d-link?

It did... but..

There was a semi-crisis at some point ---- the camera got knocked off line for whatever reason.. I had to instruct my clients to UN-plug their printer and remove the ethernet cover to connect the ethernet cable... and it found the camera .. and now works again wireless...

You might have them set up static IP address ON the camera. Also set one on the printer as well. I use statics for printers outside of the DHCP IP address pool. Cameras as well.

As solace reported on Page 2, I also found that it was not possible to upgrade directly from the factory/shipping firmware 1.01.06 to the latest version (currently 1.12.00) .   Also, it was not possible to upload the firmware using Safari - I had to use Firefox on my Mac.

I had to connect directly to the web interface of the unit using it's IP address (hardwired in my case), and first upgrade to firmware 1.02.03 (found at ftp://ftp2.dlink.com/PRODUCTS/DCS-2330L/REVA/DCS-2330L_REVA_FIRMWARE_1.02.03.ZIP ) .   That took about 3 minutes, and when the unit came back online, I logged into myDLink.com account and the unit reported (oddly) that it was using firmware 1.02.05 , and needed to be upgraded to 1.12.00 .   Using the upgrade button on the myDlink.com page, the unit was able to complete it's upgrade successfully, although the myDLink.com method required about 10 minutes to complete.  I have a feeling that upgrading from 1.01.06 to 1.02.03 and then to 1.12.00 using the device's web interface would be the fastest route.

Hope that helps.    D-Link tech staff should either modify the latest firmware to work with the shipping firmware's update utility, or they should modify the myDlink.com firmware update procedure to handle the incremental upgrade.

Thanks for the feedback and experience information. I'll post this up for cameras users.
In most cases users should upgrade from factory shipping FW as updates become available to help keep there HW up to date and avoid corner case issues like this. However in some cases where users don't check for updates and there cameras are working, then there maybe some update when going from shipping FW to most current when they do check for updates as they a few versions may have been released since they last checked, as in this case. D-Link usually advises on updating FW soon after updates are made available to help avoid isolated cases like this. Ya, you can use shipping FW and not upgrade in which if the camera works, then that's fine too. Users would just need to know that updating from shipping FW to more recent FW may not work unless you graduate shipping FW to the next version. Then as you experienced, then you can update to the most current version of FW.

I'll make a forum post for users who still are using shipping FW and upgrading to most current versions of FW.

Thank you.

I mentioned it because I just purchased a brand new DCS-2330L this week, and it arrived with the 1.02.03 firmware installed.  I have a feeling that Amazon's warehouse stock has plenty of these that will ship with the older firmware.

I presume they may have. Warehouses stock pile various qualities I presume.  ::)

I have three of these cameras and fought with the firmware updates for the last 24 hours and just figured it out.

The Firmware update fails because /tmp (tmpfs) [where it uploads the firmware] doesn't have enough space.

Out of the box, /tmp is only 15M... which is ALMOST enough space for the v1.12 firmware, but not quite enough.

How to fix:

ssh to the dsc-2330l on port 8992
username: root
password: hi3518c
run the following command:
 mount -o remount,size=16M tmpfs /tmp/

Now go back to the web interface (I didn't try it through mydlink) and do the firmware update again.
This time your firmware update should succeed.
(Note: once you update to v1.12 ssh is no longer available on port 8992)

Thanks for posting your solution. Hope it helps future users.

I'm curious if doing a factory reset would resolve the temp out of space issue before attempting to load FW.

This maybe something users should contact D-Link support on the phone about if they can't get FW loaded.

Well, this camera really isnt out of beta is it.!!
Ive wasted a day trying to get it to work.
Great concept but the thing barely works out of the box.
- Imap emails not working in SSL/TLS mode.
Had to set to insecure mode.
- "Test Error" on NAS drive server ...
yes the settings are correct, even turned off router SPI firewall and enabled ALG for FTP,TFTP,H323 and RTSP.
- "Test Error" on FTP .
Same settings as for Filezilla that work  perfectly. but not with this pile of poop.

So was hoping that thwe update may have fixed the issues.
- Updates fail with 500 error, so tried the FuzzyNutz solution.
Used PuTTY to SSL and increase the temp disk size as instructed, all via LAN not WLAN.
Then uploaded the  v1.12 FW. This Bricked the camera and can no longer access it.
Tried resetting via the reset button, but nothing is happening, the camera is a BRICK.

My advice is: This camera is USELESS and will waste your life trying to get it to work.
The update to v1.12 does not work and even the users that have reported a successful update advise that the notification functionality is broken.
Avoid this product at all cost! Im sending this back for a refund.

Oh.. almost forgot to mention,, The CD that came with the camera was unreadable, had to DL the autorun.exe file instead... nuf said.

If you think the camera is bricked, try this:
 Emergency Recovery Mode (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=44909.msg163599#msg163599)

If this fails then, I recommend that you phone contact your regional D-Link support office and ask for help and information regarding this. We find that phone contact has better immediate results over using email.

When doing any FW updates, I recommend that both camera and PC be LAN wired connected. Not wireless.
