DAP-2610 With Invoxia Voice Bridge - Dropping Calls
« on: January 09, 2018, 06:53:50 AM »

I am looking for some help and advice on configuring the DAP-2610 with an Invoxia Mobile Land-Line Voice Bridge UNIT. https://www.invoxia.com/us/en/mobile-landline/voice-bridge

Quick Set-up Overview.
1 x DAP-2610 AP running over PoE to DLINK Switch currenty configured only for 2.4GHz on 20 MHz Band Width with b g and n enabled. (See TS notes below)
The Voice Bridge unit plugs in to the same switch and is connected to the Land Line phone socket.
An App is installed on the mobile phone (iOS) which is essentially a VOIP client that uses the Wi-Fi or mobile data signal to initiate or receive calls.

You can use the Voice Bridge from anywhere external to the property (on 4G, friends/family Wi-Fi) and it seems to work with no problem. You can make and receive calls as if at home. This would seem to exclude the Voice Brigde Unit, Phone Line, Router and Switch. I have also swapped out the Voice Bridge for a replacement unit just in case.

The problem I am experiencing is when using the Voice Bridge via the DLINK WAP  calls are sometimes just dropped part way through at random times, it happens on both initiated and received calls. The only difference between the external calls and internal calls is the DLINK WAPs are used in the house so these do seem the prime candidate for causing the issue.

I initially thought it could be roaming between AP's, as I usually have more than one to cover the house, so I have now only one configured and in use. I then thought maybe its band steering between 2.5 and 5 GHz so I switched off the 5GHz (so the rest of the house keeps running on 2.4). Still dropping calls.

I have a syslog server configured for all network infrastucture devices (switch, router and AP's) and nothing looks to fail when the call fails.

I am quite new to DLINK wirless so I am concerned that I have overlooked somthing with the AP set-up that could be killing the VOIP calls or somthing that should be set to keep Apple devices happily communicating. There are no large file transfers going so I don't think its a QoS issue.

Also wondering if it somthing to do with the Power Saving mode being ON for the iPhone with the VOIP client in the 'Client Information' screen?

This has been driving me mad for a number of months and I have been blaming Invoxia until now, so any advice much appreciated.

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your DAP? Look at the sticker under the DAP.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the DAPs web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

How close is the DAP to this bridge?
What channels is the DAP and bridge using?

Mare sure they are not using same channels. On 2.4Ghz, set DAP to 11 and bridge to 1 if that's possible...

Hardware Version is A1 and current firmware 1.01 and I'm in the UK.
The DAP is configured on channel 11 already, the Invoxia Voice Bridge is LAN hardwired to the same switch as the DAP but it does not operate as an AP or AP client so it has no channel number.

The Voice Bridge unit is fairly dumb as it is supposed to be plug and play. I have it configured so it picks up a fixed IP based on the MAC so I can see the traffic its generating on the firewall via the syslog server, other than that there is not much to it apart from settings for VM and Call Forwarding which are set from the iPhone APP. A telnet or ssh to the unit just generates a refused connection, you can upload logs to Invoxia support if you have a ticket open with your MAC address registered but feedback from them is not that reliable.

The Invoxia base unit does know what Wi-Fi SSID you are on but I presume it picks this up from the one the phone is connected to.

Is this something you can test with out this bridge online and see if your phone still drops calls thru the DAP. Then maybe swap and disable the DAP and use only the bridge.

Thanks for the suggestion I will have to see if that is possible.

I had another thought this morning, I run Philips HUE bulbs around the house and they were sitting on ZigBee channel 25 which sits within the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi channel 11 footprint. I have now changed this to Channel 11 so its well out of the way, could ZigBee interference have been causing the VOIP calls to fail?

If it wasn't it does clean-up the channel separation.

Yes, other wifi devices that sit in the 2.4Ghz radio and channels could interfere with the DAP. I would ensure that all other wifi devices are disabled and test the DAP and bridge again. And test with out the bridge as well and check results.
