Does this mean that there will absolutely be no chance of any updated firmware releases? 

It's a shame that dlink is phasing out a decent router  :'(.

Nope, no more updates.  You might see one if a MAJOR security flaw is found, but I wouldn't bet on it.

I think the DIR-645 will make a great follow on router to the DIR-655. I'm enjoying mine.  ;)
