Unresponsive camera

So Basically I recently bought and setup two cameras, one being the dcs-5010L, I managed to get both of them up and running with separate ddns addresses . They were working perfectly and I was very impressed. The house is undergoing renovations whilst i'm away (in another country, hence the need for these cameras).
Now the camera was working fine, I streamed for 2 hours and then I was unable to access the camera anymore (very convenient as this happened the day I left...).
The other camera still works fine. Is there anyway I can reset this camera or anything being away from the house? I don't want to fly back just to restart a damn camera...

I've also noticed the power cycler option as an additional device, but I mean really... This shouldn't even be a thing if you designed the camera correctly!

Regards
Alex

Link>Welcome!

  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the DCSs web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

What Mfr and model is the main host router?
What wireless modes are you using?
What is the distance between the Camera and the main host router?
I recommend setting a static IP address ON the cameras outside of the main host routers default DHCP IP address pool: 192.168.#.10 and .11  DHCP

Test cameras with uPnP and uPnP Port Forwarding both enabled on ALL cameras: DCS Cloud (L) Series Camera Configuration and Mydlink.com

Thank you for the fast reply

The current firmware is 1.12.03 (updated before I left)
Can't remember the router mfr or model, it is however not a D-Link router
Wireless N (I believe, it's a wireless N router and the cameras are the only things currently connected to it), the Dcs5010L is around 7m away from router , however I don't believe this is a problem as my other camera is further and is still operational.
I have reserved IP addresses in my router for both cameras (192.168.1.12 and .14)
I also enabled both of these options before leaving, and checked the router's upnp table, everything was perfect.

Basically i'm just looking for some magic code that I can send the camera that gets it to restart even though it's being unresponsive :-P tough luck right?

Do you have these cameras associated with mylink?

I don't think there is any code you can send to the cameras to get them to reboot. If the cameras are offline then they are probably not accepting any form of data on the wireless. I presume if they are going offline then it's possible that the cameras are not getting good wifi signal.

What this happening before the FW update?

Yes indeed they are connected to mylink account as well.
Not Responsive on there too.

Sorry I have no idea how it functioned before the update, as soon as I got the camera I immediately updated it.
Thank you very much for your time FurryNutz :-)  yes it's possible that it's not getting good enough signal, I guess I shall go book my flight and move the router closer to it, and possibly just get an electric timer to restart it twice a day or so :-P

If you can get the main host router Mfr and model# info for us.
What wireless modes, security and channels it's using  as well.

Took me a while to 'access' my router
Mfr = Orange Polska S.A Model: Orange Funbox (Special modem ;-) )
Wireless N, WPA2-PSK, Channel 1
The DCS-5010L is not appearing in the list of connected devices.
If there's no way to remotely restart an unresponsive camera then i dont see the point in asking these things.

I'd check to see if you can get someone to go on site to power cycle the camera for now. I recommend that you look into getting a power timer to put on the camera to do a power off then back on at a scheduled time frame. This is not ideal and is a work around.

Actually asking for main host router information is relevant and we need to establish what modes are being used and help you troubleshoot the issue and to help you make sure that the signal is good going to the camera. Many variables contribute to bad signals thus wireless devices experiencing bad operation behavior. I have a DCS-933L that I have online 24 hours a day. I have not need to power cycle it for this kind of problem nor does it loose connection like this unless there is a power outage or I'm doing to router configuration or testing.  Routers and cameras should not need to be power cycled to clear a problem. If this is happening then the problem is being avoided and not fixed.
