Hi Folks,
I've been having problems with a 1 month old DSL-2770L which has developed a tendency to drop the ADSL connection intermittently.
I figured I'd do a firmware upgrade to the latest version(DSL-2770L_A1_AU_1.06_11152013) just to see if it resolved the hiccups.
Started the process and two and a half hours later the router is still displaying the message
"Another firmware upgrading is in process now!"
Is this normal because if it is it has to be the slowest firmware upgrade I've seen in a 20+ year career.
Please note this is the second of these routers I've had as the first one ended up "bricked" when I tried to upgrade its firmware. (Yes, following the standard process.)

- What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.

- What region are you located?
I recommend following this for all FW updates:

Web Browser Configurations
What browser are you using?
If IE 8, 9, 10 or 11, set compatibility mode and test again.
Disable any security browser Add-ons like No Script and Ad-Block or configure them to allow All Pages when connected to the router.
Clear all browser caches.

Thanks for the response.
The firmware was version 1_00.
The region is Australia.
The hardware version is A1.
I have used IE V10 to perform the maintenance.
As far as I can tell all settings are as you specify.
And yes, I did follow the proper procedure. (Fair question though. ;) )

3rd Party Security Software Configurations
- Turn off all anti virus and firewall programs on PC while testing. 3rd party firewalls are not generally needed when using routers as they are effective on blocking malicious inbound traffic.

That hadn't been done. I've disabled them now but probably too late as it's had no impact on the status which still shows as "Another firmware upgrading is in process now!".
However the actual DLINK instructions for doing an upgrade on the 2770L make absolutely no mention of disabling firewall or AV. (see ftp://files.dlink.com.au/products/DSL-2770L/REV_A/SetupGuides/How_do_I_update_firmware_in_my_modem.pdf)
If required perhaps it should actually be stated that it is required and perhaps even why.
This probably means that my device is now stuck with an incomplete firmware upgrade that will almost certainly "brick" it if/when a power outage occurs or a reboot is done.
Any suggestions would be appreciated but I suspect the result is now inevitable.

Well that's it for this device.
The internet connection finally stopped working altogether after one of its regular dropouts and it had to be rebooted. It's a brick. I'm now up running on the old NETGEAR one. Back to 10/100 but at least working.
If I'm lucky I'll get my money back. I'll not be getting another of these or probably any D-link device after this debacle.
A small message to D-Link.
Test your instructions in real-world situations. If the instructions are incomplete, correct them.
If AV or firewall need to be disabled include it in the product specific documentation and don't expect your customers to look at some other generic document located somewhere else on your site. They shouldn't have to.
And just as a final suggestion, this device has a USB port. How about modifying your system by having the boot process look for FIRMWARE.BIN in the root directory of any attached USB storage device and doing a firmware flash if it finds it. On successful completion it could then rename FIRMWARE.BIN to FIRMWARE.BIX and reboot thereby avoiding a continual cyclic flashing. Perhaps even automatically do a full restore back to factory default settings as this would probably have been a "last resort" fix.

It's always recommended to update FW over a wired LAN connection and to disable any 3rd party security programs on PCs while doing FW updates as they can effect a clean and proper download.
This is a mis-configuration that lead to a bad FW update I presume.
