They are still working on this issue. Due to the coronavirus the vendor/engineers (China) are not allowed back to work until Feb 10th.

Understandable.

I'm thinking that due to the memory specs on this router, the SMB data transfer rate will remain an issue.

Any help is appreciated. I know lately the data transfer rate is quite slow. (Under 3 MB/sec)

What are wired speeds with your USB drive?
What is the Mfr and model# of the connected USB drive? USB 3.0 as well?

Can you respond to GreenBays question please?

I've had this issue for the last year. No matter what drive is plugged into the USB 3.0 port, the transfer rate is horrible.

I heard it's because of the lower amount of RAM in the router. Due to that, the transfer rate is throttled for write speed. Not sure how valid that is.

However, there are times that I get 27 mb/s but that's once in a blue moon. Non dependent on who else is on the network.

Samba
Looked at the File Explorer file copy screen which indicated the speeds.

WIreless, on 5 Ghz band, 20 feet away and tested close up too, I think 5 feet away.

I heard from reviews that performance issues could be traced back to the low amount of memory in the router.

Same speeds.

Seagate Backup Plus. USB 3.

Before pointing to the drive. I've had a Netgear, Asus and another DLink router average 27+ Mb per second on the same file transfer.

Aside from this small issue, I love that the router is incredibly stable. This is what has made me keep it.

I got word last night the vendor (in China) for the router is still closed due to coronavirus. They might be able to go to work on Feb 21st. The engineer at D-Link (in Taiwan) is still testing and reporting to the vendor.

Vendor is back to work and are now looking into the root issue and does look like a memory issue. I will hear back in the next week or two if a firmware update will be released or if it is just a limitation of the hardware.

I received a response this morning:

R&D engineer now is trying to replace the minidlna module to new version. In recently testing, the samba transfer speed will raise up when the free memory is more than 25MB.

They will need more time to test and hopefully firmware can fix the issue.
