Unidentified Network D-Link DSL-2750B ADSL2+Router
« on: October 06, 2015, 05:34:02 PM »

Hey Guys,
I was helping a friend today and ran across this weird issue.
He was using a USB wifi adapter to access the internet through the D-Link DSL-2750B ADSL2+Router and all seems to be good
but if he connects the computer directly to the router with a CAT5 cable it will set there for awhile and say "identifying" but then when
it finally gets finished, it has his connection listed as "unidentified network" and he has no internet access.

When i check his IP it gives him an 169.xx.xx.xx so this tells me that the router is not giving his computer an IP address
when he has it connected with the CAT5 cable.

I thought it may be a setting in the router but connecting the computer directly to the router should be simple.
The computer is set to obtain an IP address automatically and the router has DHCP set with a range of IP addresses set from 192.168.1.1 to 192.168.1.254

I'm confused here and would greatly appreciate some help
If there is any setting that I need to  check in the router please let me know.
Thanks,

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your modem? Look at the sticker under modem.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the modems web page under status.
  • What region are you located?
  • Has a Factory Reset been performed?
  • Check cable between Modem and Router, swap out to be sure. Link> Cat6 is recommended.
  • Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values

Try setting a default DHCP IP address range of 192.168.1.100 to 192.168.1.199

Do any LAN wired devices get an IP address from the modem?
