Title: Chinese to English Language
Post by: SUPERDINK on June 18, 2014, 03:21:39 AM
Purchased a DIR-816L in Shanghai where I currently am based but as I can't read Chinese I'd like to change the language to English. Couldn't find an English language pack to download on Dlink downloads area for the router, is there another way?

thanks for the reply.

Sticker is also in Chinese but I can see B1 and V2.00(CN) if that helps.

Lets go here:
http://tsd.dlink.com.tw/downloads2008detail.asp (http://tsd.dlink.com.tw/downloads2008detail.asp)

Select DIR from the left side drop down menu.
Select 816L from the right side drop down menu.

Download the following file:
DIR-816L B1 v2.03 for WW

Do the following while hard wired LAN connected to the router please:
Use IE or FF to do this.
Disable all browser security add-ons and any PC security SW temporarily.

Factory reset the router using the routers web page option under Tools/System.
Upload the DIR-816L B1 v2.03 for WW .bin file.
After the upload completes and the router comes back to ready, Factory reset the router using the routers web page option under Tools/System once more and then set up from scratch.

The UI should be in English now.

Let us know how it goes...

Didn't work.

I downloaded Firmware: DIR-816L B1 v2.03 for WW the saved file is called: DIR816L_FW203b03.bin

Turned off all antivirus etc.
Using IE I reset to factory default
I uploaded the firmware file using the firmware upgrade section, the router successfully upgraded to B1 v2.03 and restarted with the UI still in chinese.
I reset to factory default again but the UI is still in chinese.
Reset again just in case, still in chinese.

What do you suggest?

Try this:
Emergency Recovery Mode (http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=44909.0)

Use the same WW file...

I haven't tried yet, to be honest it sounds a little extreme and I don't want to brick the router. I'm currently using Chrome's translate function when I need to change settings in English. I haven't started using any of the advanced features so will probably get onto it when I do.

Surprising D-Link doesn't just add a language option into the settings considering their products are sold globally.

Is there a remove option under the Language Pack feature?
