Title: wifi stability, range and disconnection issues.
Post by: Saikumar843 on January 14, 2022, 05:10:03 AM
Hi Team, I'm from India purchased R15 router. Since day 1 facing quite a number of issues w.r.t wifi stability, range and disconnection issues.

Within 3 days of purchase had to go service centre to get this sorted. They've mentioned there is no issues with hardware.

Previous I had a xxxx wifi6 router which was same as this R15 segment in the market. Performed very well consistent wifi and range was good.

While purchasing I've expected the same from D-Link R15. But, my estimation was wrong looking at the issues I got.

One point to highlight. VoWifi call also breaks a lot. When downloading something I can't make a video call on Google duo it flickers alot. I never understand why these issues happens in a 200Mbps connection. Connection is very stable.

Try the latest BETA firmware v1.04.04 and see if things improve. If you have v1.02 or lower, you will need to reset the router after you update the firmware to 1.04.04.

Hi Greenbay, I'm on the latest stable version of firmware 1.03.04 version. Is it safe to use heta versions?

End user here, not Greenbay, but: I don't think D-Link can ever officially describe a beta as "safe", after all it wouldn't be a beta if they had tested it. But as an end user I can confirm both 1.04.01 and 1.04.04 are far more solid than 1.03.04

One thing: for some reason the transition between shipped firmware and 1.03.04 ends up messing up the configuration, so I personally recommend doing a factory reset and reconfiguring (don't restore from a back-up.) I know it's a pain if you've made quite a few adjustments, but it's worth doing, and only apparently needs to be done once.

I am not having any issues with Wi-Fi stability or disconnection issues with the current firmware but did with 1.03.04. So hopefully it'll fix your issues.

Hi Peharri,

Due to all these strange issues. I had to log a complaint to Dlink. Service centre folks not giving clarity that these issues will be rectified in the upcoming FW upgrades.
I have the replacement device delivered to the service centre now.

BETA firmware is always tested before any release. "Official" releases just go through complete testing by vender/D-Link and will sometimes need to go through the certification hoops which is why it can take weeks/months to get released.

The only time it can be unsafe is firmware from 3rd party or open source versions.

I am facing the same issue of random reboots and over heating of the router ( just bought the router its only 24 hours old now, running on 1.03.04)
I am based in India, so what do you suggest, should I upgrade the firmware to the latest beta 1.04.01
also suggest any points i should remember before, while and after upgrading the FW.
 Thank you.

Yes upgrade the firmware. This should help with WiFi connectivity and dropping. As far as the overheating, make sure there is good ventilation and nothing is setting on the router. Is the power adapter hot or just the unit?

sure will upgrade the firmware.
only the unit is overheating.
will check after upgrading the firmware regarding the overheating issue, and will let you know.

If you feel the router maybe over heating, try putting a USB laptop cooler fan under the router.
