Hello
I just bought a Dir-636L for 2 reasons:
1) I need to set some access control to limit the internet time for the kids
2) I liked the idea of the USB storage
None of these feature work properly.
Let's talk about the problem with USB storage to match the topic.
I connected a USB hard drive to the router and it appears as a "Storage" device.... so far so good.
I created a user with Read/Write access.
I logged into the address given on the bottom of the page http:myaddress:8181
I can read the driver, download files.
I can click on the no-name menu on the top right to get to the page were I can Create folder or upload.
None of these functions work, nothing happens.
The only thing I can click on is the driver usb_A1, but I get "insufficient permission".
Well obviously I gave this user read and write permission.
I use Windows 7 and I tried to upload with Explorer, Firefox and Chrome. None of them can upload, all of them can download.
Again, same comment as in my previous post .... how can it be so difficult to do something that simple.

Can you explain :
what do you mean ' I can read the driver' ?! ??? what 'driver' ?
If I understood you well, You have read access, but no write access ? Can't create folder or upload ?

btw, the DIR 626L and DIR 636L have very young and fresh firmwares ... :D
They'll get polished with time ... :D

Let us know what you find out Network. I haven't been able to test my 826L since I'm currently testing a different router.

oh, the 'driver' is the drive, I guess ;)
Works ok on my DIR-626L, both Lan access and Wan access, both using IPv4 or IPv6.
There is one little ambiguity I think :
When you create a user, directly giving him read/write access seems to work, but the write access is not recorded, and this is visible on the webadmin storage menu.
First create a user, Save the page, and then give him read/write access.
Beside, do create a specific folder for your user, I'm not sure a user can access the root folder ...
Without feedback or screenshots from Disapointed, difficult to do more :)
FurryNutz, does mydlink registering offer you some added features or technical possibilities storage-wise ? ( like a pseudo DNS record, or anything .. ? ) :D

I haven't looked lately however generally, it just offers you web based access UI to the routers status, client lists and WiFi and some traffic data. Mobile apps are able to connect to any storage devices and stream.

I'll try to be more explicite:
The usb drive is recognized and shows up as usb_A1 with 3.65GB.
I created a user called "me" with read/write access. I save. I restart the router and I can still see "me" with read/write access.
at the bottom of the page there is a link to follow to get to the SharePort Web Access like http://xx.xx.xx.xx:8181/
xx.xx.xx.xx being my IP address.
I click on that link and fill in name and password. I click on the menu icon on the top right I come to a page where I can see:
"My Access Device Hard Drive" with "usb_A1" under. I wish I could put a screen shot on this post but I just can get it to paste.
If I click on "usb_A1", I get a message "Error: insufficient permission."
I cannot create a folder and I cannot upload a file.

So I used command run: \\192.168.0.1. The drive showed up usb_A1 in an explorer window, directly without asking for any user name or password.
From this explorer I can copy (upload) files.
So yes it works but not really as supposed.
I haven't tried from a computer outside my home network. Now I'm trying from computer attached to the router.
I created a folder called "shared" on the drive (via explorer, not via SharePort Web Access since it does not work).
I gave my user read/write access to this "shared" folder via the storage menu but it is the same problem.
I tried to access it via http://192.168.0.1:8181/ instead but it is just the same.

Was thinking about your problem. Can you try it with an empty, fresh formated USB drive ?
Maybe its a Windows OS permissions issue ?!
The Datasheet states ' FAT32 and NTFS supported '
Can you try with a formated USB drive ?
One other thing I was thinking about:
If you try to access the shared drive using web browser ( http://xx.xx.xx.xx:8181 ) using your admin account ( the main admin account of your router : admin / [your password ] ), can you upload / create folder ?
As for me, I did create the users' folders using the main admin account. It did work ok. I think its the safest way.
Here is what my drive looks like :
