Title: DNS-345 Raid 1 + Single disk configuration
Post by: akgear on May 10, 2012, 07:44:05 AM
Hi All,
finally I bought 2 Seagate Barracuda 3 Tb - model type ST3000DM001.

Now a question:
I want to use them in DNS-345 with mirror raid 1.
I have to configure the mirror and copy some data from a different 1,5tb disk.
Finally I want to put the formatted 1,5tb disk into the NAS as a single additional disk space.

What's the best sequence to achieve this configuration without losing data?
(i.e. I can insert the third disk with the 3tb mirror online or I have to do a special setup?)

Thanks in advance.

Is the 1.5TB HDD (containing data) already in the DNS-345 or in another device?

Actually I'm formatting VOLUME_1 as a raid 1 with the 2 3Tb disks.
Only these 2 disks are in the DNS-345 actually.

1,5 Tb disk is in another external disk. I will copy all data into DNS-345 and then I want to format this 1,5tb disk and to put it in DNS-345 as a single disk.

Thanks.

After your RAID-1 array is formatted, power down the DNS-345; insert the 1.5 TB HDD into a free slot; and the DNS-345 should prompt you to format the 1 TB HDD without impacting any existing HDDs.

Ok, I'll try, thank you.
By now I can confirm that Seagate ST3000DM001 are well supported in DNS-345.

Using 2 of them as a RAID1.
Very fast, cool and quiet drives.

Bye.

Update:

I can confirm that Seagate ST3000DM001 are well supported in DNS-345.
Using 2 of them as a RAID1. Very fast, cool and quiet drives.

Succesfully added 1,5Tb disk (Seagate ST31500541AS) as a single disk.

Everythings working correctly.

Bye.
