DIR-635 FTP server / USB ?
« on: October 15, 2011, 10:18:35 AM »

Hi everyone!

Is there ANY possibility for a DIR-635 to store incoming FTP (from a wireless IP Camera) to USB storage? I needed a router spcifically for this job, a friend of mine wrongly recommended me this one and I rushed into it without thoroughly doing my homework. Now I'm trying find a way (any way) to make it work.

Thanks.

Are you wanting to connect a USB device to to the USB on the back of the router and have the FTP data stored on it? If so, I don't think so. You'd need to install Shareport on a PC that is connected to the router that manages the USB device. Most device supported are USB external drives and printers that you have to use Shareport on PCs to use the USB connected device on the back of the router.

Precisely! I found out (the hard way) that it can't be done on a stock 635 AND that it's processor's lack of support for Linux prevents compatibility with common alternative firmware. So, after googling high and low, I thought I'd ask a question on the home forums for any (be it unorthodox) way to fulfill this wild dream of mine :D.
BTW, what OS is the 635 running?

You'll find that probably with Most of these routers. Not sure what OS is used on these routers as I'm sure thats Dlink I.P. There are some routers that you can put WRT on however you'll void the warranty if you and want to get something fixed by Dlink on it.

You can also put Dlink's firmware back on if you have to return it for repairs.
