New 825 is Slow
« on: July 05, 2009, 02:00:10 PM »

Just installed a new 825 router. Most is good except the connection speed, as reported by Vista, is 65 mbps. What have I neglected to do?

Computer: Sony VGN-NS240E laptop (wireless N capable.) Vista Home.

Router: DIR 825, FV Ver. 1.01, router 802.11 settings are A-G-N, bandwidth is set to
20/40

The speed is constant at 65 even with the computer sitting next to the router. Signal strength, as reported by Vista is "Excellent."

Appreciate any help..... Phil

are you using any wireless A or G computers on your network?  If not, turn off all that stuff.

I am using Windows Vista and Windows XP on my network.  I'm on a Windows Vista Machine right now and it's showing a connection of 270 mbps.

I set my radio to channel 1, Transmission Rate is = Best/Automatic, 802.11 Mode is set to Mixed 802.11n and 802.11g ( I have an Archos 5 which uses G), Auto Bandscan is not enabled.

Hope that helps.  I was using a Linksys WRT350N router but had intermittent problems with it for several years.  I got the DLink DIR-825 a couple of weeks back and it is drastically faster on both wired and wireless connections.

Thanks for the response. I exchanged A,G,N to just G, N. I also changed the "N" computer connection to the 5 GHZ range. The reported speed is now 270... Phil

i don`t understand, the "A" standar works on the 5Ghz band and the "G and N" standars works on the 2.4 Ghz... am I wrong?

That is confusing, but I believe the DIR 825 means that the frequency Band is either 2.4 or 5 Ghz and the mode of operation is either G or N.

I don't have a clue, all I know is when I changed my "N" capable computer from the 2.4 band to the 5 band, the connection speed, as reported by the 825, went from 65 to 300. I left my "G" computers on the 2.4 band at 54.... Phil
