Can't connect to my dlink router to remote admin
« on: September 05, 2013, 09:08:32 AM »

Hi all,
I am trying to get to the remote management software for my d'link 824L
I know the outside IP address and I have set the port to 1080. Remote management has been turned on.
When I put the IP into a web browser with the port number, I receive a page cannot be displayed error message. I am at work and we are behind a corporate firewall. Not sure if that makes a difference but it's driving me nuts! ;)

    Link>
Welcome!
  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

To confirm that you have a DIR-824L or 826L?  ???

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Service do you have? Cable or DSL?
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
  • Check ISP MTU requirements, Cable is usually 1500, DSL is around 1492 down to 1472. Call the ISP and ask. Link>Checking MTU Values
  • For DSL/PPPoE connections on the router, ensure that "Always ON" option is enabled.

Web Browser Configurations
What browser are you using?
Try Opera or FF? If IE 8 or 9, set compatibility mode and test again.
Try turning off these features in Chrome:
Top right corner, little bars for options > Settings > Settings (on left) > Show advanced settings.
Uncheck these:
Use a web service to help resolve navigation errors
Use a prediction service to help complete searches and URLs typed in the address bar
Predict network actions to improve page load performance
Enable phishing and malware protection

Does using port 8080 or enabling HTTPS on port 8090 work? I use HTTPS and 8090 here.

Sorry...that was meant to say 826l  ::)
Hardware version is 1 and I've upgraded the firmware to 1.04
I'm in Canada/Ontario/Ottawa
I have cable - going through teksavvy
At the moment I tried using FF and Chrome to connect and it still just times out. Again, I'm at work behind a firewall.
I haven't tried https though. Tried 8080 and 1080 and no difference.

Possible your work Firewall could be interferring maybe.

I can access mine while using https://WANIPADDRESS:8090 from my work. I Think there is a firewall here too but it works mostly...Going to check again now.
