Author Topic: How I fixed the DNR-202L from Continous Recording when Configured for Motion Det  (Read 34036 times)

I had a problem where the DNR was recording continuously even though I had it configured for motion detection. I configured the DCS-932 cameras for motion detection always. I set up the DNR for motion detection in the events, but the DNR-202L was recording video continuously. This was gobbling up disk space pretty quickly.
Here's how I fixed it. I logged in to the DNR via the web interface and went to Live Video. Below the list of cameras (right side) I noticed the record button and it was red (recording). I clicked on the record button turning off the record function. I didn't change any other configuration of the cameras or previous event setup on the DNR. I then went to the Status tab and saw that the cameras were connected and in standby (recording status). Previously the status always showed recording. I then walked from room to room while monitoring the status and noticed when the camera detected motion the recording status changed to ALERT then back toStandby after the set event record times. I also verified that the recorded events showed up correctly in the Playback tab > View Recorded Files.
If you're having the problem of continuous recording of video with motion detection enabled try this.

Thanks for that. Part two, set each camera's motion detection either in mydlink.com or web setup. Part three, set the DNR 202 Event recording to all green bars (Even) instead of red bars (continuous) for the selected camera's in the Event setup.

Thanks for that, I were fighting with the DNR because of the continuous recording. It happens after I used the "DNR-202L_Setup_Wizard_v2.03.00.exe"

I would try using the on board set up wizard on the DNR itself.

I clicked on the red button and got message "Manual record is enabled. Please remember to stop the recording afterwards, as failure to do so will consume your hard drive storage space."
Is it correct?

This was tricky to figure out but I also tracked it down. What's getting me still is the constant network activity; the device is reading the cameras nonstop although the cameras are set to motion detect only. Is it possible to use the camera's push on motion detect ability to only transmit when there is motion?? Otherwise it is killing my wifi to have this nonstop traffic! I had to unplug one camera to make wifi usable again.

Would need to know your configuration and set up.
How many cameras do you have connected?
How is the DNR connected?
What mfr and model# router are you using?
How many other devices are connected to the wifi and what are they?

I have two cameras, both are 932L, One camera is wired and one is using WiFi but I'd prefer to relocate the wired one to somewhere it would have to use WiFi.
The DNR is hooked up by LAN cable straight to the router, which is an Asus RT-N56U
Other devices on the WiFi are a couple of laptops, an iPad, and a couple of phones. A couple more computers and a printer are on the wired LAN. Nothing except the cameras stream nonstop.
I can tell its the cameras using up the WiFi bandwidth thanks to the router's network monitor.
Thanks for any help.

I believe one of the DNR default operations is using the network. I have seen this as well with mine. Not sure if this is something that can be disabled.

Hello

I purchaed a DNP-202L last week and I'm having the same issue as well.

Both of my cameras are constantly streaming to the device even though they are set for motion detection only on a schedule.

I have confimed that it is not recording the stream. I don't appreciate that it's eating my wireless bandwidth however.

Link>Welcome!

  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the DNRs web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

What Mfr and model is the main host router?
Did you follow this process?

This is supposed to fix constant record streaming.
