Don't wish to say. Just here to help. But either way I cant help people with their service in any specific way outside of work. All kinds of rules against that. One of the reasons I had to stop posting on AVS and DSLReports. Luckly this forum is not read as much and has to do with something I personally own, so its all good.

Well, enjoying the new modem. Seems to be doing just fine. Gaming is good. Seems like I have seen more green bars in MW2 then I did with the old modem. Will have to do some DLs and other Internet'g and see how that goes. I'm happy.  ;D

Yea, it will only get better as your ISP adds support. I just played around with firmware:

1.0.1.7 - Stable and 3 Channels bonded down. Doesn't list QoS at headend= more throughput. Thats probably just a bug with my ISP.

1.0.2.4 - 3 Channels bonded down, just loaded, will report on stability. No erros in logs so far. Performance good.

1.0.3.0 - Did not bond. Reason "Registration RSP rejected unspecified reason". Probably configures the modem to bond using different QAM then we use in my market. Still went online though. Only kept it on for 5min, so no comment on performance and stability.

So what Firmware are you running? If your running 1.0.3.0 and not bonding, may want to ask for 1.0.1.7. If your running that, may want to try 1.0.3.0. Or just wait till it its tested and passed and they will push it to your modem automatically.

where do you get FW? I thought ISPs controlled that or at least put that out when it was available...

I think I answered this. It is controlled by the ISP, indirectly anyway. Technically speaking, theres a way to do it without the ISP. Sometimes its easier then other times. For instance, with the DCM-202, you can Telnet into the modem to update it. You can with the 6120 as well, but its much more diffacult and the firmware is not freely available.

So what you have to do is contact your ISP, usually with DSLReport, and ask one of offically recognized moderators to update it for you. These are usually listed on a sticky on your ISP's board. Many times they will go through many firmwares before they find one that they think works the best and then they will test it for a couple months before pushing it to modems, but that can take months. If your having a problem that may be firmware related (IE channel bonding) sometimes getting your ISP to update to a "unofficial firmware" can help. The thing is, hackers/crackers have given firmware updating a bad name, and so its not uncommon for your ISP to give you a raised eyebrow if you ask. But in the end the modem is your property, and the firmware is released by the manufacture, and you have no access to it when it is put on your modem, so their is no risk of gaining proprietary information, so they have no valid reason to deny you. Thats another reason to go through DSLReports so you know your talking to someone who knows what the heck their talking about. LOL

Well I can understand all that. I've always been of the frame of mine that if it works don't fix it. Specially when it comes to ISP services keeping track of things. I've always let the ISP take care of the modem. As long as it works lets keep it that way. Internet is mission critical and I don't need the modem to be the critical path unnecessarily. I will look more into the FW updates later on. I presume there could be more now that C1 is now supporting DOCSIS v3 now. I'm sure they'll be making tweeks here and there. Fine tunning it?

Understood. And is there is much wisdom in your train of thought. I am a tinkerier myself, so I like fiddling just to see how things work. Then again, if the wrong firmware gets loaded, I can fix it with a 30second call, so yea, its different I guess. But honestly, without the channel bonding, your caging a beast, and from what I can tell, it will probably be 6+months before your ISP pushes it to the modem. Still a hella stable device though, with a very senstive tuner, so you got your money's worth.

Same here I like to tinker too, just as long as I have a safety net. Not sure about the modem here. LOL. Well, I think once they start supporting higher speeds maybe the bonding will come into play. Remember, your at 75Mb and I'm at 10Mb, I'm there there is much more in play and that beast you have is uncaged at that rate. 10Mb might be wasting time. I do notice that I get full green bars when playing MW2 yesterday and I think I had most of the host time. Notice that I was first in the game. I think it will be good. Also we need to figure out how to remote into the 4500's. I would like to learn do to that.  ???

Well, been down and out in bed sick for the last couple of days. I got to play about 2 hours on REACH, went to work and was back in bed by 7pm. Finally feeling better today. I just happened to look at the modem again and look what I found:
Firmware Name: SB6120-1.0.2.1-SCM00-NOSH

Guess they updated it sometime over the last couple of days. I think it might have been yesterday. System up time is 17 hours.
