Title: Workgroup Name Not Allowed
Post by: jeffnoone on July 27, 2008, 11:53:00 AM
I call my home workgroup "@******", and am installing a second DNS-323

Now under firmware 1.05, I am not allowed to enter "@******" under the workgroup tab, altho my first DND-323 accepted this name at some point (?earlier firmware)

Now my first DNS-323 still does show the workgroup as "@******", BUT I cannot resave with that name (it also no longer seems to accept this - says the "@" character is illegal")

I have multiple devices and software settings at home I am going to have to change, if I have to change the workgroup name to something that does not include "@"

Any way around this, so that I can enter "@" - certainly various Windows OS's and other devices have no problems with this

OK to answer my own question - one way to achieve this is to save the config file, then edit it with notepad, there will be an entry "workgroup= workgroup" (if you havent changed it) - change the second "workgroup" to whatever you want

Am I losing any functionality by picking what the DNS-323 sees as an illegal workgroup name?

I've been told that editing the config file with notepad causes web server problems on the next restart - something to do with windows/linux differences between line feeds and carriage returns - you might want to "re-edit the file with a different editor.

if its just a problem with the line feed caracters, just use notepad++
