Title: 100 metre wifi extender into permanent cable?
Post by: bainf on May 16, 2015, 03:50:18 AM
I have a cable running from my house modem to shed 100metres away. If I plug into that cable internet works fine but wifi entended in house does not go anywhere near that far
If I leave camera permanently plugged into cable, will wifi entender work? Its a really easy option to have wifi in shed and would double as security camera

I think that the 933 is similar to my 931 -
WiFi extender ONLY works with WiFi, stops transmitting when cable is plugged in.
I had the same need with camera at end of a very long Ethernet (powered by Power Over Ethernet, TP-Link TL-POE200).
My solution was to use a travel router (ZyXEL MWR102) at the camera location, acting as an access point, and let the camera hook up to that router's WiFi (since the single cable was used up by the router, and no room/power for an ethernet switch.

Yes, the two cameras are identical except the DCS-933L has night vision.
