Accesspoint drops Connection after a few minutes
« on: December 20, 2012, 12:26:54 PM »

Hello
Since I installed my new D-Link DAP-1360, I'm dealing with the same problem over and over again.
I used the Setup-Wizard to configure my Device as an AccessPoint. I set the SSID and a Password. As soon as I was done, I tried to connect with a device (In this case my Samsung Galaxy S3 Smartphone)
It worked like a charm and I could surf the web at full-speed. But after a few minutes, nothing worked anymore, even though the Phone was connected and the connection speed was rated "High". As soon as I tried to reconnect (The Wireless Connection could still be found) there was an infinite loop of connecting.
I tried every possible setting in the AP, but still it only works a few minutes after the AP restarted.
I also set a static IP-Address which didn't help.

Hardware Version: C1
Firmware Version: 3.02

Any Help is greatly appreciated.
Thank you

What wireless modes are you using on the host router or is there a host router?
What mode is the DAP working in now? AP, Bridge or Relay?
Try single mode G or N or mixed G and N?
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.
What wireless devices do you have connected?
Any cordless house phones?
Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?

Well there are 3 Cordless Phones in the area near the AccessPoint, and also the Wi-Fi network of our neighbours, and another one of us. There are no devices connected at all, except for my smartphone but only to test the connection.
The Security is set to WPA-Personal, but I also tried WPA2 and even no security at all.
The other tips you mentioned couldn't solve the problem either :(

Thank you

Any of the cordless phones on 2.4Ghz by chance?
You might want to set a manual channel of the host router to something that is open and not being used.
How far away is the DAP from the host router?
What mode is the DAP working in now? AP, Bridge or Relay?

-No matter how often I look through the manual of the Cordless Phones (All are of the same type) I can't find out if they're set on 2.4Ghz. I keep looking, and plug them out to try again.

- The Host router (Which is also an AccessPoint) is just far enough that I sometimes get a very weak Wi-Fi Connection.

- The DAP mode is AP

Thank you :)

How far is away is the main host AP? Can you close the distance and test again?
