Port Forwarding to local IP 192.168.100.1
« on: October 26, 2016, 01:55:20 AM »

My router D-link DIR-868L is connected to a cable modem.  The Router IP Address is "192.168.0.1".

The modem has a fixed IP address  "192.168.100.1"  to access its  status page/setup from LAN. So I am able to assess the modem  status page from my local computer Web browser when typing  "192.168.100.1".

When I want to set up Port Forwarding (or Virtual Server) with local IP address "192.168.100.1" and try to Save, I get an error message "invalid host ip address".

I guess the router only accepts/saves   addresses  192.168.0.x.

How to overcome this restriction?

Never thought of it. The cable  modem is on the wrong side of ports.

I guess if I really had to, I'd remote desktop in to a local machine, and access it from there locally.

Any word on Google?

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Internet Service Provider and Modem Configurations
  • What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?
Wouldn't happen to be a Motorola/Arris SB 6 series modem would it?  ???

The 192.168.100.1 address is usually the address of these ISP modems. I know I have 3 of them. They are only for connecting to the modems web page to check the modem info and diagnostic logs and reboot the modem. The modem should be passing thru a public IP address to the 868L, i.e. ##.##.###.###. If the modem is a stand along modem with out any router built in.

]What ISP Modem Mfr. and model # do you have?[

It's a simple Thomson  DCM476. I set it up a few years ago and if recall correctly, it's in Bridge Mode.

But, I think the question is how to force D-ilink router to accept/save local IP address "192.168.100.1" for Port forwarding

What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under the router case.

    What region are you located?

Can you access that IP address of the modem from your PC browser when connected to the 868L, you should be.

What IP address is the WAN port getting on the 868L? It should be a public IP address of ##.##.###.###. IF your ISP modem is bridged, then the 868L should be getting a public IP address and not a private address 192.168.###.###. This is preferred to attain single NAT conditions. You wouldn't have to port forward anything from the modem or it's IP address.

Again the modems IP address of 192.168.100.1 is only for the modems web page and not used for anything else.

What Hardware version is your router?
   Firmware version
    What region are you located?

H/W ver.: A1
Firmware Version : 1.09
Located in Canada

Can you access that IP address of the modem from your PC browser when connected to the 868L
Yes.

What IP address is the WAN port getting on the 868L?
"135.23.124.x"

IF your ISP modem is bridged, then the 868L should be getting a public IP address and not a private address 192.168.###.###.
Yes, the router gets the public address "135.23.124.x" on WAN, while "192.168.0.1" is modem's local address on LAN

the modems IP address of 192.168.100.1 is only for the modems web page and not used for anything else.
Yes, so I want to view the modems web page remotely that's why I want to port forward to 192.168.100.1 so I can reach the modem page being outside of my local network, from Public Internet

You can't view the ISP modems web page from outside the network (WAN). This would be a security issue and most if not all ISP don't allow this. You can only view the ISP modems web page from the LAN side.
