DCS-932L Static Audio
« on: April 04, 2011, 09:21:50 PM »

I just set up a DCS-932L and the Audio has a very annoying background static. I have a DIR 655 as my router. This static happens wired or wireless. I've tried it with multiple surge protectors and without. I have high end home theater equipment on this same dedicated circuit and I don't have any ground loops or other audio problems. I've tried using the ActiveX and Java clients on a Win7 laptop and an XP Desktop with no luck. the 932L has firmware 1.0. Any suggestions?

Same noise issue here. I am waiting for a solution to static before I order more cameras.

I too just setup a DCS-932L and the Audio has a constant annoying background static, so I have turned off the audio. I got this camera via the Amazon Vines program and so I have to write a review on Amazon.com. I will definitely be letting all potential Amazon buyers know of this audio problem. A few bad reviews like this at Amazon, and dLinks sales of this camera will drop drastically. I have read a few other reviews at Amazon, as well as from other stores where people are all complaining about the audio static.

One reviewer stated that dLink techs indicated to him the company was well aware of the issue but had no plans to correct it at this time. Although I got this camera free as a part of the review I must do for Amazon, I was planning to buy 2 or 3 more and place them around my home but I now plan to not buy this camera unless this audio static issue is fixed.

I was looking to purchase the DCS-932L and just happened upon this thread regarding the audio issue.

Does anyone know if this is a firmware correctable issue or something that owners are stuck with?
I'm looking at this purchase primarily for video (audio is a distant second).   I realize there's static, but are voices at least audible?

Thanks.

The crackling is definitely noticeable, but tolerable, and voices are clearly audible despite this issue.  Given the DCS-932L's overall performance and functionality, this is a minor flaw I'm more than willing to overlook.

I have the audio too and find it totally intolerable.

it is not a small issue if you want to use this as a baby cam where you are listening the sound in the room.

You will be subjecting yourself to constant noise and static.

I don't get why all these cams have so much trouble with sound.

The crackling is most likely due to electrical interference from the camera circuitry (i.e. design issue).

Am i only imagining things???
I got this camera yesterday..
When i first used it, it made some static sounds.
After upgrading the firmware i didn't notice any... fw 1.01b03

Will test again today to see if my static really is gone

*edit1*
Tried a bit more today, and the static clicking isn't gone.
But it doesn't occur all the time.
For example i set it up to point at my hallway... i get a clicking static even if i turn off "sound"
If i rotate my camera 90 degress to face the wall... i dont get a static sound.

Can any other DCS-932L owners validate this observation as well (i.e. before and after firmware upgrade)?

Maybe you got a bit excited and didn't read my "edit" =)
The static is still there.
Its a lot better when using activeX instead of java on my system.

Well, you can't blame me for being too optimistic. =)
Like I said earlier, I'm thinking the static is due to poor insulation, but who knows.
