Do all of these IR cut over events occur in pitch blackness or is there some degree of light, e.g. sunrise/sundown?

Thanks for your reply.

All of these IR cut over events occur in pitch blackness, in a room without windows.

Thanks!

Is the IR actually cutting over or are the log files capturing false events (i.e. did you view the camera cutting on/off)? Does this happen when the lights are on in the room?
Title: Re: IR Cut and Light ON/OFF
Post by: duccio on September 23, 2013, 09:16:30 AM
Yes, the IR is cutting over with a loud noise. The 2 cams are in a bedroom so it's impossible to sleep.

No, all the lights are off.

Thanks!

You may want to try performing a factory reset. While the camera is powered-up, press and hold the recessed reset button on the rear of the DCS-2230L using a paperclip for > 9 seconds. This procedure will remove all user settings. Prior to performing the factory reset, you may want to save your settings (option is available through the web UI) which you can restore later after you've tested the camera in it's default state.

Thanks for reply. I tried factory reset many times without restore user settings (using factory parameters) and the problem persist.

For test I just configured an event trigger over PIR sensors, log attached. No one is in this room.

Thanks.

If the FW version is identical to your other DCS-2230L, the settings are the same, and the environment is the same, there may be something wrong with the camera itself. I presume you recently purchased this camera?  Was the camera behaving normally for a while or was this always happening (out of the box)?

This problem always happening in 2 of 3 of my cameras, very strange. I own this cameras few days ago.

Here's something to try. Go to http://tsd.dlink.com.tw (http://tsd.dlink.com.tw)/ and downgrade your FW to v1.10 on one of your cameras.

I will try asap, thanks.

My thought is that perhaps there's some FW defect impacting the the day/night detection logic.  Short of that, I'm running out of suggestions.  :-\

Is the camera that's working using the same FW version as the other two cameras?
Title: Re: IR Cut and Light ON/OFF
Post by: duccio on September 23, 2013, 09:48:18 AM
Yes, the same firmware version and settings (all factory). I double checked dumping settings and using a "source-code" diff software.
Title: Re: IR Cut and Light ON/OFF
Post by: JavaLawyer on September 23, 2013, 09:51:20 AM
Let me know what happens with the older FW (v1.10).  The version you have (v1.20) is fairly new, so perhaps there's an issue.
Title: Re: IR Cut and Light ON/OFF
Post by: JavaLawyer on September 23, 2013, 10:01:59 AM
As long as this issue persists, I recommend leaving the cameras in Night Mode to avoid physical wear and tear on the IR cut Filter switching on/off.

One final request. If you haven't already done so, please try rebooting your router.
Also under Advanced > ICR and IR > IR LIGHT, try selecting Sync. With ICR

If this doesn't work, I'll see what else I can find out.

Just tried rebooting my router with same results.

Also the option you suggest is the default option so is activated by factory.

Short of some settings that we've overlooked that distinguish the working camera from the two non-working cameras, I'm at a complete loss here. Since the three cameras are identical, you can save the Configuration Settings file from the working camera and upload it to one of the non-working cameras running the same firmware as the working camera. Using this approach, you will eliminate any differences related to firmware + settings.

What do you mean a "diff-program"?

I am referring to the web UI paths:

The conundrum here is that this member owns three DCS-2230s and this issue persists on two of them. Two DCS-2230s with the same defect purchased by the same person seems highly unlikely.  ;)

Yes :-( please, read about the other problems, above all the Micro SD mount problem (the card is not mounted automatically on boot!)

Thanks.

oops - I originally thought it was only 1/3.

I wonder how far apart the serials #s are.. bad batch???

Mine are f/w 1.10.

Hi.

Hi returned 2 of 3 cameras.

Today I received 2 new cameras: same problem: IR Cut and IR Light ON/OFF.

I tried to cover the "IR Cut Sensor" and the problem persist: IR Cut and Light ON/OFF repeatedly...
Title: Re: IR Cut and Light ON/OFF

Thanks for your reply.

All of these IR cut over events occur in pitch blackness, in a room without windows.

Thanks!

Not that it should matter -- are these cameras in the same room? Are they pointing at each other?

These might have been answered previously:

Does the problem persist with only 1 camera enabled in that room?

Do you have Sync with ICR on?

Have you tried with ir light control ALWAYS on?

Hi Ryat, thanks for your support, I'm so sad...

The problem persist with only 1 camera in the room.

IR light is in sync with ICR. The problem persist also with light control always on.

I tried to cover with black tape the "IR Cut sensor" and the problem persists.

This is the results:

How about this..

You have put the 1 good camera in the bad camera's location and all is fine?

Have you put the 2 bad cameras in the 1 good camera location?

Where in the world are you located? Southern Hemisphere?  what country?

I added 3 of my 2230 cameras.  I have one more S/N some where.
I wonder if these serial #s are unique..  I've bought most of these cameras at separate times.. and from different places.

I can only assume that each serial number is unique. On a somewhat related note, mydlink uses a unique 8-digit number that's hard-coded into each device as a unique identifier. Although the DCS-2230 is not a Cloud camera, I wonder if there is a correlation between the S/N and 8-digit ID. This is something I'll have to check out later.  ???  :-\

Maybe my hardware is too old?

QE1X1C9000046 vs QE301D2000047? 1vs3 and fw 1.00 vs fw 1.10?

I would assume hardware is the same. h/w: A1 is the same.

Pal/ntsc  can be handled in the firmware setting.

What are your settings for the video mode?

antiflicker off?
Your powerline is 50Hz, right?
white balance auto?
exposure mode  auto?  max gain 24dB?
denoise 0?
brightness 4?
contract 4?
saturation 128?
sharpness 4?

Does resault default goto 60hz or 50hz?

Or are you using some crazy shutter speeds?  I like low noise for in the dark.

Exposure mode has custom settings.

have you tried low noise?

on your settings/config  export, what is pirsensitivity? i think i had 22  i couldnt find anything that made sense for IR

Mmmm I think that IR Cut is driven from a specific sensor not from the image exposure etc...

PIR sensitivity is for the Passive Infra-red not for IR cut.

In export config this is for Day/Night:

dnc_mode=0
dnc_sensitivity=6
dnc_schedule=0
dnc_schedule_start=70000
dnc_schedule_end=180000
dnc_d2n=5
dnc_n2d=24
dnc_bw_mode=1

And this for IR br:

irledbrightness=100

My values differ ... in BOLD:

Had a strange thing happen today.. the infrared light turned off...

camera was set in night mode, and control set to sync.

I heard it click this morning and thought it was rebooting.  I manually undid the power and still no infrared light on reboot.   It's pretty dark so it should be on.

Camera on separate adhoc network with another device.

Moved camera to home network.

Removed the sd card and verified - it did turn off, camera didn't appear to have anything strange in the log file (other than a lot of network disconnects and reconnects).
No issues with SD recording restarting on power disconnect.  SD card remounted.

turned infrared light to always on.

unplugged from wired home network, relocated it back, and plugged it in, everything looks okay.
infrared light is on.

So somehow the camera decided to turn off the light, but still stay in night mode.

f/w 1.10.02.

It was just strange, so I thought I'd mention it here.  (this is the first 2230 I've run with infrared light 24x7 for a couple weeks now).
