Nokia 500 loose connection with DIR-615 D3 version
« on: January 22, 2013, 09:27:54 AM »

Hello,

I already mention on another topic that I have problems with my Nokia 500 wireless connection with the router. From time to time (in some cases after few seconds since the connection was made) it's loosing the connectivity with the router. Normally it's loosing the connectivity when the connection it's not used by any phone application.

Is this normal? I want to mention that the power saving function of the phone it's disabled so the problem can be from the router.

I already tried TPIK only but no success.

The router has the following setings:

- Enable Auto Channel Selection - checked
-Transmission Rate    : automatic
- WMM Enable: checked for QoS
- Cipher Type    : auto
- PSK / EAP    : PSK

Advanced wireless:

- Beacon interval : 100
- RTS Threshold :    2346
- Fragmentation : 2346
- DTIM interval : 1
- Preamble Type :    Short
- CTS Mode : Auto
- Wireless Mode : n/g/b
- Band Width : Auto

Hope this are all the settings. In the next days I will receive an ASUS laptop and I will try to connect it to see if the same problem appear.

Thank you in advance for suggestions.

Try single mode G or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz.
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.
Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
What security mode are you using? Preferred security is WPA-Personal. WPA2/AES Only. Some WiFi adapters don't support AES, so you might want to try TPIK only or Auto.

Any other WiFi routers in the area? Link> Use InSSIDer to find out. How many?
Turn off WISH, and WPS under Advanced.
Try turning off Short GI, WLAN Partition, and Extra Wireless Protection if you have it. Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless.
Enable WMM Enable Under Advanced/Advanced Wireless

Let us know if this helps.

- I tried single mode b/g and afterwards n. On b/g modes is doing the same thing, disconnect after 2 minutes or less. In n mode it doesn't want to connect.

All the other options were tried but one after each other, I didn't combine them...

Preferred security is WPA/WPA2 (enhanced). I tried also TPIK only but same issue.

I can't use InSSIDer as the only wireless device from my house is the phone. This week I will receive the K55VM Asus laptop and I will install the InSSIDer.

WISH and WPS (I found something mentioning WPS where is also mentioned a PIN number) I think is not supported by the phone, or I have no idea how to use it..

WMM is enabled.

Anyway, I think I should stop the trials until I try with a different wireless device than the phone.

I will keep you informed if I have the same problem with the Laptop. It could be a way of phone battery protection which can't be disabled.

Important thing is that when I make network traffic (e.g. watch a movie on youtube) it doesn't loose the connection so easy.

Can you change the Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only?

Also, test this by disabling all Wifi security temporarily, as a test to see if the Nokia keeps connected

It seems that you found the problem (I set for 20 MHz only and the phone was connected for more than 10 minutes - never happened).

The Wifi security was not disabled.

Does this change has an effect on the transfer speed? It shouldn't....

Thanks a lot for support.

No since the Nokia may not support 40Mhz.

Glad it working.

Enjoy.

Link>Welcome!

  • What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
  • Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on the routers web page under status.
  • What region are you located?

Try single mode G or mixed G and N on 2.4Ghz.
Channel Width set for Auto 20/40Mhz or try 20Mhz only.

Try setting a manual channel to a open or unused channel. 1, 6 or 11. 11 for single mode N if the channel is clear.
