Which Should I buy? Dap-1522 or 1555?
« on: September 21, 2008, 10:51:52 PM »

Hey all,

I've moved down two floors from my current router (DGL-4300 fw 1.9) and my signal is decent.  I don't want to use a wireless card as it rubs against my video card which is already blowing off a ton of heat.

So I'm wondering whether I should get the DAP-1522 or the DAP-1555?

I have both my PC and my Xbox 360 downstairs, so I could use the gigabit ports for my desktop and then wire in the xbox 360.

So which would work best with my setup.  I've also heard there is no signal meter in bridge mode on the 1522.

Any advice is greatly appreciated.

:)

You do get a signal strength indicator with the 1522.  It can be viewed from the site survey mode.  Depending on the router you are bridging it to, you will also get an indicator of strength from the router.

I'm running a 1522 as a bridge between my house and my neighbors.  I don't have any issues with connectivity but do have a weaker signal than I may get with a 1555.  I currently have a signal strength of 58% as indicated by the 1522 and it connected to my router at 54Mbps.

The 1522 doesn't have the external antennas, as you stated, but does have the 1000Mbps switch built in.  If you plan on transfering large amounts of data between the systems on the switch, I'd go with the 1522.

The 1555, with the built in antennas, should have better signal strength if you are going a long distance or through a lot of walls.  But it is limited by a 100Mb switch for the devices connected to it.

There was a discussion between the two here on the message board: http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=2091.0

The DAP 1522 is the superior product except that it has internal antennas. Other then that the switch and the features included are way better.

Hi Lycan,

Do you think I should just get the DIR-825 and then use my DGL-4300 as the bridge instead?  Also, with the coming of the DIR-825, will there be a Duo version of the DGL series?  I prefer the gamerlounge router interface than the standard DIR one.  Sorry, but I'm trying to make a lasting decision that I like and isn't too expensive.

You can't bridge the DGL-4300 to the DIR-series routers, you'll need a DAP-1522.

I agree with Lycan the superior product (and less expensive) is the DAP-1522, but like Lycan said it has internal antennas, but its still provides above decent results.
