 I'm having a problem getting my Dlink DIR-855 to work with Arris DG860.
RoadRunner is now offering faster speed package in my area so I signed up.
I had to turn in my old modem for a new one.
This new one is a Arris DG860 which has a built in wireless router.
I'm not at all happy with this and prefer my Dlink DIR-855 dual band wireless router.
All was working great until I changed Modems.
I can actually see "DLink" on my iPhone. It's showing all the bars and unprotected but it will not access it.
Also I can run a wire from the DLink to my PC and nothing happens.
Yes I do have a wire running from my Arris to the DLink like it's supposed to be.
I'm not a master tech but I know how to access my router if it's something I need to change.

I guess I need someone to take me thru this, step by step. (Please?)

What Hardware version is your router? Look at sticker under router.
Link>What Firmware version is currently loaded? Found on routers web page under status.
What region are you located?

If this modem has a built in router, it's best to bridge the modem. Having 2 routers on the same line can cause connection problems.
Double NAT
To tell if the modem is bridged or not, look at the routers web page, Status/Device Info/Wan Section, if there is a 192.168.0.# address in the WAN IP address field, then the modem is not bridged.
If the modem can't be bridged then see if the modem has a DMZ option and input the IP address the router gets from the modem and put that into the modems DMZ.

Can you ask your ISP for a DOCSIS 3.0 stand alone phone modem? There are plenty of them out there, including ones made by Arris. Or you could split you service to use a phone modem and data modem. As you said, everything is fine until the new modem..so the problem isn't the router..its the modem.

If you have phone service thru the Arris modem, that will be a problem as well as most of these modems can't be bridge due to that. Check with you ISP and see if the Arris can be bridge if you don't have phone service thru the modem, or see if you can bring your own modem and get your self a Motorola SB 6 Series stand alone modem. Motorola also makes good modems with built in phone support as well.

I found the DMZ option but I think I'm in over my head.

I don't have a Phone on this, only RoadRunner cable internet.
I don't have a problem buying a Motorola SB 6 Series stand alone modem if that will handle the speed.
I'm on the 50 down 10 up plan now.
Do I need the SB6141?

What ever 6 series is available, I tested the 6120, 6121 and 6180 and all do weil for me on my 50/2 ISP.

Theres a sticking in the FAQ Library about what each model does and the differences. Not much however the 6120 is a 4x4 bonding while the others are 4x8 and 8x8 bonding modems.

Okay will do.
I just called Time Warner and the tech says it "HAS" to be the Motorola SB6121.
I found one for 80$ and will save 13$ per month rental fee on theirs.
Seem like a win-win to me.

Awesome.

Also recommend upgrading cabling from CAT 5e to CAT 6, that's good stuff. I recommend the shortest length between the Modem and the router if possible. I use a 1ftr.  All other cables can be longer.

Life is great again. Got the new modem like you advised and all is back to normal only with wayyyyyyy faster speeds.
