Firmware Upgrading Causing Emegency Fault
« on: August 12, 2015, 10:21:30 PM »

Decided to try to upgrade to 1.08' and here is the series of events that followed

1. Tried upgrading to 1.08 via safari browser on phone. Upgrade said success, orange light never stopped blinking after 5 minutes

2 restart router and orange brick light is blinking

3 access emergency recovery page, manually install 1.03---success

4 aces router with wired computer, attempt to upgrade to 1.08----same outcome, flashing orange after success is achieved. Reset and router goes into brick mode

5 recover from emergency mode with 1.03 again --success

6 download 1.07 and try to manually upgrade back to 1.07. Router says success, but still has blinking orange light for 5 minutes

7 reset router, back into brick mode

8 emergency recovery with 1.07' success. All settings are saved

I am on windows 10 and have never had an issue upgrading firmware before, both manual or automatic search/download. What could be wrong?  Thanks for any advice. As of now, it looks like the only way I can change fir wares is to send the router into emergency mode :/

I would download the 1.08 file again. May be corrupted.

Flash only over LAN Ethernet.

Factory reset before and after each flash.

Are you manually flashing the 1.08?  Don't forget to unzip the file first and just load the firmware.

Try Edge browser on W10.  It has worked just fine for me.

First off I don't recommend using a wireless device to upgrade any router. Please use a wired LAN cable PC to do the FW updates.

The FW is not corrupt as I tested it before it was posted to the web site. So it does work.

Please follow this for doing ANY FW updates on routers:
Link> >FW Update Process
This will help avoid any future FW update problems.

Just to clarify my comment about a potentially corrupted file...The hosted file is definitely not corrupted, as I too, successfully flashed it as soon as it went up. However, during the download, the file may definitely have been.

Be sure to disable any 3rd party PC security SW and browser add-ons. Seen it where these and sometimes Chrome can mess with the FW update process. Why I recommend using only IE or FF however D-Link told me the Chrome works with there FWs.  ::)

I will try this in the next few days with the new edge browser and downloading the .bin first. Will update. Have not tried as I had company out of town and did not want to mess with the router.
