2 dir-655 routers connected via cat 5
« on: November 18, 2010, 11:13:50 AM »

I have the following setup.  1 dlink dir-655 (firmware 1.21) connected to the internet via dsl.  Wireless and network work fine.
IP 192.168.0.1
SN 255.255.255

I have another dlink dir-655 connected via lan to lan connection.
following the basic configured as suggested

it seems to work ok.  But how can I verify that the wireless is moving to the correct router?

Quote
give it a new address (I used 192.168.0.2)
same subnet mask
turn off QoS
turn off the SPI firewall
turn off Guest Zone
set up wireless with the exact same SSID as your main router
give it the same security and password settings
set channel orthogonal to what your main router is (or exactly the same, opinions are divided on this.) In my setup it doesn't make any difference.

One of the routers should be set to IP address 192.168.1.1 and the other should be set to 192.168.1.2 otherwise neither will be able to communicate on the network. Connect a computer directly to port 1 on tyhe second router and adjust the IP address accordingly. Then Disable DHCP on the router, you want the primary assigning the address (this will prevent IP address conflicts). Are you using a crossover cable configuration, if not do so. Go from one port on one to another port on the other (DO NOT USE THE WAN PORT).

First do you say set router 2 to 192.168.1.2 then turn off DHCP on that no need if you do a LAN to LAN cable, are you a jerk ??

Also there is no need for a crossover cable, there are auto-sensing switched ports.

Hi Jay,

Set the 2nd D-Link Router to an IP Address of 192.168.0.2

Change the SSID Signal Name to something different. You can have different SSID Signal Names.

You can have the same Passphase with different SSID Signal Names.

This way, you can tell which Router you are connecting to.

Use same SSID and phassphrase wpa2+aes 40MHz but different channels, 1-6-11 the dir's do roaming and you don't need to anything!
