Hourly "Initiate Wireless" messages in logs
« on: June 19, 2011, 12:01:43 PM »

Hi, my DAP-2553 is running firmware 1.21, using 2.4 GHz b/g/n mode and WPA2. I notice every 60 minutes my wireless clients are dropped and they reconnect. I have a variety of clients using the AP and they all do the same thing. In the logs of the AP, I see an entry that says "Initiate Wireless" about the same time clients are dropped and within 5 seconds everyone is back in. The clients will report a link down in their side before they re-associate. It seems like the AP is restarting the wireless subsystem every 60 minutes, or it is crashing and restarting. The AP itself isn't restarting and shows several days of uptime on the web status page.

This characteristic of the AP makes it unusable for long-running operations, like downloads or VOIP that cross that 60 minute threshold.

Anyone else by chance seeing this behavior?

I do not see this behavior with my WAP54G and Airport Extreme devices.

Thanks in advance.

Not hourly, but I see this occasionally with my DAP-2590.  I don't see it with an older DLink AP (DWL-7100AP) or another brand 802.11n unit.  I'm running at 5.2GHz and tech support tells me the radio is resetting because of interference by my neighbours' networks at 2.4GHz.

What are your Performance settings in the DAP-2553? Is it possible that the Ack or Beacon interval is too short?

Those settings would still be at the D-Link's default. I only configured the wireless security and LAN settings when I was using it.

Either way, I'm done with it. I buried the DAP-2553 in a box months ago and replaced it with an Apple Airport Extreme. It cost a bit more, but it has worked perfectly with all of my Microsoft, Android and Apple devices since installing it, and it is simultaneous 2.4/5 GHz band.

Try single mode N?

Any other WiFi routers in the area? Use InSSIDer to find out.

These issue can be caused by other WiFi routers in the near by area.
One way to find out is to move the DAP to a different location, friend or families house.
