Please, please allow me to play my songs on my .ps3 (or any DLNA device) in the correct track order. This is a huge problem and limitation of the dns-323. I am considering returning mine (I bought it last week) because of this.

This is a well documented problem in various online forums. Doesn't anybody test this stuff?

All my mp3's are numbered "01-<track name>.mp3" and the dns-323 somehow cuts out the "01-" and displays only the track name which would be great if it played in the correct order and not alphabetically.

I beg you, please fix this....it's ridiculous.

Sounds like it reads the ID tags and not the names.  Put the track number as part of the name. :)

As per my post, the track number is part of the name and it still doesn't work. It's already been well established that this machine ignores id tags. If it read id tags, it wouldn't be a problem.

Fan - It is always on

Upnp Server - PS3 does not show folders with MKV files in them when shared directly with PS3.  I can see folders with mkv files in them if I share the dns-323 drives through PS3 server.

That's not a general issue, my fan works properly.  I did notice that you have to pick the Auto low/high setting, for some reason the Auto off/low/high setting does not work as expected.  However, the fan running at low speed is inaudible even right next to the unit.

I don't really think anyone is monitoring this from D-link side if they are sure as hell its not obvious... how long does it take to fix a few bugs? At this rate I will die b4 I have any stable hardware from D-link

I've seen his/her posts... so hope is there.. :-D

Are there any plans to add S.M.A.R.T. diagnostics similar to what the DNS-321 has?  That's a nice feature to quickly check if things are OK with the drives.

What ABI will be used in new firmware: new ARM EABI or legacy ABI? In one post was asking for this feature, but it seems, there was no reply on it.
EABI is better, because, at least, we can do debian chroot with new packages :)
Legacy ARM ABI will not be supported anymore in debian.

Hi,

Hardware Version: B1
Firmware Version: 1.08 b05

Harddrive 1:WDC WD15EADS-00P8B0 (1.5T)
Harddrive 2:WDC WD15EADS-00P8B0 (1.5T)

Problem:
DNS-323 works fine with disks which have S/N lower than: WD-WMAVU0179999, for any other webs app shows only 500G instead of 1500G. i've checked web sources, one of affected function is: format_wizard_showdevlnfo()

All disks *work perfectly fine* under regular PC, below you can see drive info (hdparm -i from linux/PC):

 Model=WDC WD15EADS-00P8B0                     , FwRev=01.00A01, SerialNo=     WD-WMAVU0180057
 Config={ HardSect NotMFM HdSw>15uSec SpinMotCtl Fixed DTR>5Mbs FmtGapReq }
 RawCHS=16383/16/63, TrkSize=0, SectSize=0, ECCbytes=50
 BuffType=unknown, BuffSize=32767kB, MaxMultSect=16, MultSect=?0?
 CurCHS=16383/16/63, CurSects=16514064, LBA=yes, LBAsects=18446744072344861488
 IORDY=on/off, tPIO={min:120,w/IORDY:120}, tDMA={min:120,rec:120}
 PIO modes:  pio0 pio3 pio4
 DMA modes:  mdma0 mdma1 mdma2
 UDMA modes: udma0 udma1 udma2 udma3 udma4 udma5 *udma6
 AdvancedPM=no WriteCache=enabled
 Drive conforms to: Unspecified:  ATA/ATAPI-1,2,3,4,5,6,7

Any suggestions ?

if you need more info, let me know please.

Regards
Rafal

[Feature Enhancements]
Auto-update external IP report in passive mode

Threads about this:
  • http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=8846.0
  • http://forums.dlink.com/index.php?topic=8794.0

On the DNS-323's ftp panel settings;

PLEASE ADD A FUNCTION SO THE DNS CAN AUTO-UPDATE THE EXTERNAL IP REPORT ITSELF.

For us passive mode users, this is a need! If I'm at work or out of the city and need to log into my ftp but my ISP changes my IP during the day (since it's not static), then I won't be able to access it (I will be able to connect to server but it will reject me as the report IP will be false). The hole point of FTP is being able to access it from outside the network at all time, making it impossible to update manualy the IP if we aren't inside the network. This function would make the DNS totaly independant and reliable in passive mode.

Since I have alot of people that require constant access to my DNS for professionnal use, if my external IP changes while I'm not at home then they won't be able to access it for hours until I get back and type in my new external IP myself.

I hope you understand what I'm trying to explain, this has nothing to do with DynDNS!  :-X

As fordem explained so well, here is the more technical description of the problem and reason why this is function so important;
When passive ftp is being used, the ftp server will tell the ftp client to make a data connection and it will specify an ip address and a port on which the connection is to be made - and if the ftp server is not configured correctly it will specify it's private ip address, which is what you are experiencing here..

It would be great if we could have an option to auto-fetch the external IP as the user wants to, like every ½h, 1h, daily or weekly.

EDIT: This problem was solved by setting the DIR-655 router TCP endpoint to address restricted. But this function would still be usefull I guess.

[Feature Enhancements]
FTP montly bandwith upload and download limit
Add a feature of monthly bandwith upload and download limit per account would be good to gain control over the ftp activities. I think it might be better than receiving your bill at the end of the month with a bad surprise.

FTP User and Group support with per User Virtual Directories
So we can create virtual directories for groups or accounts with differant types of access to folders at differant locations on the DNS's hard drives. It's kind of hard to share 1 specific folder for 2 distinct users or groupes.

FTP Auto-ban IP anti-flood
Always in the optics of getting better protection, there could be a system that, after so many attemps (10...) with bad password/login in x time (example 1min) then your IP is banned from the DNS for (30min/60min/always). Perhaps this would also be good against brute force. And have a pannel to control these IP's to either keep them on that block list or unblock them (ex a friend tried too many times and just forgot his pwd).

FTP Active Logs
A simple log that could be seen directly from the GUI for direct consultation.

Dynamic DNS Timeout
Simply to be able to customize the delay between the dynamic DNS's update so your IP is always accurate.

They don't have to be on the next firmware, a simple add-on application pack injected by the pannel "ADD-ONS" would be an alternative.

But then, with these features I guess that would make the DNS-323...perfect?  :-X

I like the idea of the anti-hammering login restriction, that's one reason I've been reluctant to allow the DNS-323 FTP to be exposed publically.

Remember you bought a "simple" NAS with some additional features.
There are already NAS with these features i.e. Synology or QNAP.
Just have a look at these and their price.
I'm using the Synology DS series for my FTP servers.

You got what you paid for  ;D

But to be honest, the DNS-323 is a good and reliable NAS for its money.

Just because it's not an expensive NAS, there's no reason it can't have a couple of features.

I agree.

The ftp server is already in it; Why not make it better with 2-3 extra features? Most freeware ftp servers offer these, I guess they have become standard functions.

Some addons mentionned are security related and cannot be neglected (ex: Anti-hammering, Logs...). Others, just offer more flexibilaty such as virtual folders, since two accounts cannot "share" the same folder.

I think for alot of us, we took the DNS because we trust D-Link (I only buy D-Link stuff for my network) and bought this DNS mainly because of the price but more even because of the ftp. If there wouldn't be an ftp server integrated, then I wouldn't have bought it.
