Title: Is it worth upgrading 825 to this unit
Post by: drick on December 18, 2011, 09:46:18 AM
hi,

in the process of doing a whole network redesign in the SOHO, and wanted to see if there is a sufficient benefit on this unit from a speed / coverage perspective over the 825 to justify the expense?

the 825 has been pretty good, but i never got N to connect up between it and the 1522 at rated speeds, and the coverage in our house was poor at best.

TIA for any/all suggestions.

is your 825 an B unit or an A unit. If your 825 is an B unit you should keep it because it can do IPV6. The Dir 855 cannot  use IPv6. And thye processor of the 825 is better dan the 855

Since you have the A unit, the router is a good router. If you do need IPv6 at some point then getting into a model router that handles IPv6 would be needed to be addressed by you. If you don't need it then for the time being, your 855 will work just fine. IPv6 isn't a huge priority right now. Even for home users. Eventually you might see a change over however it shouldn't be a hassle as there are many factors in getting it deployed at the moment and out to the public. It will be a while longer.

Sounds like we could do some trouble shooting on your current HW and see if we can bring up the wireless to a more acceptable condition for you and make what you have work well for you. Let us know and we can walk you thru some steps. Need some information from you as well.
