Display bug listing media
« on: April 11, 2008, 11:21:42 AM »

I have a lot of media files, and I noticed problems when listing folders that had a lot of items in them.  Specifically, items are lost (never displayed) and others are mis-arranged.  So I set up a simple experiment, as follows:

I created a directory containing files named 00.jpg through 99.jpg.  I imported the directory.  I go to my DSM-520, select that playlist, and then "page down" and look at what is displayed.  The DSM-520 displays pages of six files.  I should see pages listing 0-5, 6-11, 12-17, 18-23, 24-39, 30-35, 36-41, 42-47, 48-53, 54-59, 60-65, 66-71, 72-77, 78-83, 84-89, 90-95, and (a short page) 96-99.  There are two pages that are displayed incorrectly.  The page that should display 36-40, instead displays 36, 37, 38, 39, 40, 42 (skipping 41) and the page that should display 78-83 instead displays 78, 79, 60, 62, 63, 64.

If you scroll down past the 78-83 page, then scroll up, it displays correctly subsequently.  The 36-41 page, on the other hand, continues to display incorrectly.  However, if you scroll UP, past the 36-41 page, and THEN come back down to the 78-83 page, the problem comes back.

This problem is in the present firmware and at least the past TWO firmware releases.  It is completely unrelated to the server software, as it happens using other DLNA servers, such as Media Center and Windows Media Player 11.  I have 5 DSM-520 units and they all behave the same way.  I cannot POSSIBLY be the only person who has observed this.

If you have a chance to check this out, it really means the 42nd media file is completely INVISIBLE.  Something D-Link needs to fix.  I am told by a friend who tried this with both a DSM-320 and a DSM-520 that it ONLY happens on the 520.

Anybody else experience this bug?

Confirmed with my DSM-520 and v1.06.  Just ran a test with 100 avi's and mine had the same issue.

This is getting old, but the fact is that this product is being sold with a VERY obvious problem, which is now "acknowledged" by D-Link, yet after three months, there is no indication when it will be addressed.  It isn't as if this is some silly little issue.  This is fundamental: if your library has only fifty files in it, this device is incapable of properly displaying (and therefore, accessing) these files.  This product should not have gotten out of ALPHA test, let alone Beta, through (at least) three firmware releases that I'm aware of.

When will it be fixed?  I'm not asking for a date, just a time frame.  If you tell me "within the next 45 days," I'm OK with that.  But if you told me by year's end, or "I have no clue", I want to get a refund for the 6 units I purchased and replace it with a product that meets its (basic) specifications.

WHEN WILL IT BE FIXED? ? ?

I am very sorry for the inconvenience but I have not been told a time frame for the next firmware release.
