Hi all,

Greetings. I was using DIR880L for a few month, work perfectly. Then I restarted it one day and I cannot connect to internet (globe forever orange). I took to exchange and got a refurbished set (they don't give brand new exchange). This one has new set of issues - when I use my laptop wifi, speed is great; web browsing, facebook, instagram, all A ok. Wired (ps4) is good too. But when I use apps via my android phone, its very slow. apps include youtube, facebook, instagram. I never have this problem with my old set before it kapoot.

I believe my current fw is 1.06. Is there any quick fix to above issue? I would like to think this is not hardware issue. (not my internet, not my fone, not even the router itself).

Many thanks in advance.

Forgive me, but I saw some note on firmware upgrade is NOT to do it wirelessly. I am using MAC laptop now and it doesn't have LAN cable slot. So is it safe to do it wirelessly? I rem reading that it might damage the router permanently.

Reason for not doing it over wireless is that the router is fully reset and the wireless turns off temporarily and the settings are set back to default thus the SSID names and PWs are cleared and go back to default.

Do you have a friend, family or neighbour with a wired LAN cable supporting PC? You don't need the router connected to the internet if you already have the FW file handy, you can just connect the router to a wired supporting PC or laptop and upgrade the FW.

I suppose you could try upgrading the FW over wireless however I would recommend that you have the in box wireless settings card that came in the box with factory SSID names and PWs on the card. It might work. However I recommend wired LAN cable since you only need to log in at 192.168.0.1 with admin and a blank password.

Worst case is that you can recover the router if something happens using the recovery procedure.

In regards to my issue, I didn't do anymore FW update. What I did is switch my  router settings > Internet > IPV6 tab I have the following config: Auto Detection then back to Auto Configuration SLAAC/DHCPv6 and it seems to fix the problem.

Additionally, on http://support.dlink.com/ProductInfo.aspx?m=DIR-880L, I see latest FW is 1.07. But I also see 'Security Advisement' as 1.08. What's Security Advisement? Is it like an add on firmware? Please note my FW is already 1.07.

Are you using IPv6 thru your ISP service?

Security Advisement is a patch to close security problems found by 3rd party users and notified D-Link about the issues. Sometimes D-Link will also include additional FW updates as well even though not mentioned in the release notes. I recommend upgrading to v1.08 as it seems to be beneficial and stable.
