Hi!

I have a D-Link DIR-868L Hardware revision A1 - Firmware 1.20.

I'm trying to use the Wireless Repeater Extender option, but I cannot find it. According to http://support.dlink.com.sg/Downloads/DIR-868L/PDF/DIR-868L(A)-How-to-setup-as-a%20Repeater-Mode.pdf there should be a pull down menu with several options (step 4, in menu Manual Internet Connection Setup). In that menu there is only a checkbox to setup the DIR-868L as bridged.

Is it possible to set it to the Wireless Repeater Extender option somehow? Should I use a different firmware version or am I overlooking another setting to enable this functionality?

I've had this router for so long (and really happy with it). I hope to be able to use it in the caravan as an extender for the (bad) campsite WiFi signal).

Thank you!

Example of what I have (note that this image is taken from a website as example):

Link>Welcome!

  • What region are you located?

The section you are looking at is only for the internet connection type to your ISP service. Any repeater or wireless bridge modes will not be listed there. There is wireless bridge mode right above that is supported. For Rev A models, Repeater mode was never supported. I don't believe Rev B models supported repeater modes either.

The PDF comes from the ASIA region which may have supported it. Most other regional FW like USA or Canada did not support Repeater or Extender mode in there FWs.

You could check out DD-WRT FW. I believe there FWs support Repeater modes.

Thank you for your swift reply!  :)

I'm located in Europe. I just received a message from Support:

I'm sorry the DIR-868L/E (European hardware version) doesn't has this Extender feature.
Maybe a sepcial Singapore hardware version of the DIR-868L has it.

So I guess I'll flash the DD-WRT firmware.  :D

I couldn't flash the router with the DD-WRT unfortunately. I uploaded the firmware, after the restart it had the standard D-Link sofware on it still. I believed it might have to do with the 1.20 firmware. So I've tried to downgrade to 1.07 first and to go from there to DD-WRT. This downgrade didn't work either. After uploading the standard 1.07 D-Link firmware, it restarted and still showed 1.20.

Would it be possible to downgrade in the Recovery mode only? Do you have experience with that?

Use recovery mode to load any prior v1.2x FW:
Emergency Recovery Mode
Once it's downgraded, then try WRT again.

I made a post here about loading WRT on DIR routers:

While reading your reply I managed to downgrade the firmware. Thank you for the 2 links, I'll read them.

And again, thanks for your time reading this FurryNutz!
