Title: WBR-1310 port forwarding doesn't work inside LAN
Post by: joshg on June 24, 2010, 09:16:38 AM
I have a couple of basic services (SSH, HTTPS) I'm using to synchronize a couple of machines, including my netbook.  Port forwarding for these services works just fine when I'm connecting from the outside world, ie. not at home.

However, whenever I try to connect to these services via the external IP address from at home, the connection just times out.  This is especially frustrating with my netbook, as I have to continually edit a hosts file to remap my dyndns address to a local IP when I'm at home, and then edit that back out again when I'm connecting from elsewhere.  Now I have a new iPod Touch that I want to connect to local services, and the annoyance has doubled.

The services work fine if I connect via the internal IP, or if I use the external IP from outside of the LAN.  So there's nothing wrong with the setup as far as I can tell.

Is there anything I can do to make this router smarten up?  I'm pretty disappointed with it right now and about ready to write off D-Link routers in general.

yeah, I just found out about that bug yesterday after trying to replace my old router with the WBR-1310 Rev D1 and I was about to throw the WBR in the garbage thinking it was defective, when I read your post.

That bug means that whenever we put in place a rule for port forwarding, there is no way we can test it unless we have some kind of remote PC we can use, so basically this is a bad bad router for me.

I will have to bring back my old and trusty DI-704P from retirement until I have a solution for this issue.

on the WBR I tried a firmware update to the latest version, but "it dit not take", I was still at the same version when the update was completed.
