Cannot get Internet connection with UML290
« on: May 15, 2014, 06:28:26 PM »

My Pantech UML290 is on the supported USB modems list, but it doesn't connect to the Internet.  It just keeps saying "connecting" on the status page.  I tried with Firmware 2.15 (though I am going to try with firmware 2.13).

Any tips to get this to work?

Thanks!

I am in the United States.

I did not perform a factory reset, though moving from 2.15 to 2.13 may have done the trick, as it reset my settings.

Hmm... 2.13 doesn't seem to have the 3G/4G Modem options...

I moved back to 2.15 since 2.13 doesn't have the 3G/4G modem option and I ran into some bug where it wouldn't let me log in to the admin panel.

I did the factory reset and then reconfigured for 3G/4G access.

This is the D-Link Pocket Cloud Router, H/W version A2.

The loaded firmware is 20130708_D-Link_DIR-506L_V2.15b02.bin from DIR-506L_fw_revA2_2-15B02_all_en_20130819.zip.

The signal strength looks good.

This is my 4G card: http://www.pantechusa.com/modems/fourg-usb-modem/

If I enter the Manual Internet Connection Setup, I can change the dial-up profile to Manual.  I've tried different things here.

I've tried the combinations of CDMA2000/EV-DO and WCDMA/HSPA, without APN and also with APN set to "vzwinternet".

Without APN, I get the following:

Dec 31 17:00:14 init: Starting pid 2307, console /dev/ttyS1: '/bin/ash'
Dec 31 17:00:15 commander: STOP WANTYPE 3G
Dec 31 17:00:16 commander: Enter Power Saving Mode

Dec 31 17:00:28 commander: AutoSel Ethernet Port: Configured as LAN
Dec 31 17:00:47 O3G/hotplug: check setting!!
Dec 31 17:00:49 O3G/hotplug: THIS IS EVDO MODEM CARD!!
Dec 31 17:00:51 commander: Exit Power Saving Mode
Dec 31 17:00:55 O3G/auto_apn: Dial-up profile is manual

It is working for me if I change the Dialed Number from #777 to *99***3#

CMDA2000/EV-DO, no username, no password, no APN

Hopefully this will help many people!
